Some posters mentioned in another thread how they feel slighted because Koreans won't sit next to them on public transportation. They attribute it to their 외국인 scaryness factor. I've seen these posts many o' times where dudes will talk about how "clean-cut/clean-shaven" they are. It's always "I don't walk around with holes in my jeans, have dirty dreadlocks or T-shirts. I have a nice suit on..so why doesn't anyone sit next to me???"

So my question is...how scary are you. I would say I am very high on the scary scale as far as white folk in Korea go. So who are you? Do you look like some EBS clean cut bozo ala Isaac Durst or a member of a Black Metal band from Norway?

I have a pony-tail, van dyke, and am 6'4".
So yes, by Korean standards I'm scary as hell.

lol no wonder you hate my posts on attire...

It's cool man, seriously, even though we are on opposite ends of the clothing spectrum, I admire that you don't feel the need to conform. That's individualism at it's best.

Anyways, I find people wanting to be next to me, like 85% of the time. It's because I dress in shirts and ties, am pretty ok looking (ok I'm pretty handsome let me not deny it), and I have what other people call "nice" eyes.

I look extremely approachable and unfortunately I get into a lot of unwanted conversations (If you can call sharing thoughts about Kim Chi a coversation) . A lot from phsychopaths too, in America too.

Grass is always greener...

I look quite un-scary to Koreans, but I know how to act in ways that unnerve Koreans if need be. Once in a while I find someone make a point of not wanting to sit beside me, but it doesn't happen routinely.

hahaha,,,its my buddy Goku....The fashionista. Yeah I guess we are polar opposites when it comes to fashion. My clothing style isn't particularly striking or odd (punk rock/gothic etc.) I usually just have jeans/t-shirt for work and adidas like track pants and wifebeaters on in the good weather. Long hair past my shoulders but never usually wear a pony tail. Typical white trash look Smile

If you look similar to your avatar ,....then I'd definitely say you would be "un-scary" to Korean people.

Korean people have a certain model of what they think a white person should look like (think Isaac Durst or any other similar douche you would find on KBS, EBS, SBS etc.) If you deviate from this white guy archetype...then you will be labeled scary....and no one will sit next to you on the subway. Sad

I'm sick of being scary. Not only do people not sit next to me, I don't even get the beggars putting stuff on my lap, or the church folk inviting me. It's probably due to my size, big even by US standards. My style of dress is Jeans, T-shirt, and leather jacket.

I don't know if you were being sarcastic but I'd definitely say those were positives.

I'm not quite as thin as my avatar would might lead you to believe, but yes, I apparently do fit the 'good waegook' profile and look like someone from EBS. One year one of my new students tought that I actually was the guy from a morning EBS broadcast they get once or twice a week before regular classes start. They record it in Paju and we're a five hour drive away. What did she think I do - record the broadcast and then jump on a jet helicopter to make it to class in time?

I was asked if i was a cult leader on a train a while ago. It was the long beard, the black shirt and the 3 girls with me. I still don't see why that would be that scary, I thought Koreans were used to cults and the like.

How scary? Or how evil? Hmmmmm.....

This is my creedo:

"And when I vest my flashing sword And my hand takes hold in judgment I will take vengeance upon mine enemies And I will repay those who has me O Lord, raise me to Thy right hand And count me among Thy saints ."

"Whosoever shed last blood. By man shall his blood be shed. For immunity of god make he the man. Destroy all that which is evil. So that which is good may flourish. And I shall count thee among my favoured sheep. And you shall have the protection of all the angels in heaven."

"Never shall innocent blood be shed. Yet the blood of the wicked shall flow like a river. The three shall spread their blackened wings and be the vengeful striking hammer of god. "

We do not ask for your poor, or your hungry.

We do not want your tired and sick.

It is your corrupt we claim.

It is your evil that will be sucked by us.

With every breath we shall hunt them down.

Each day we will spill their blood till it rains down from the skies.

Do not kill! Do not rape! Do not steal!

These are principles which every man of every faith can embrace.

These are not polite suggestions. These are cause of behavior.

And those of you that ignore them will pay the dearest cost.

There are varying degrees of evil.

We urge you lesser forms of filth...

...not to push the bounds and cross over...

...into true corruption, into our domain.

But if you do...

...one day you will look behind you and you will see we three.

And on that day you will repent!

And we will send you towards ever god, you wish.

And shepherds we shall be for Thee, my Lord, for Thee.

Power hath descended forth from Thy hand.

That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command.

So we shall flow a river forth to Thee,

and teeming with souls shall it ever be.

- In nomine Patris - Et Filii

Et Spiritus Sancti.

Yes, I was there!

How far are we gonna take this?

The question is not how far.

The question is:

Do you posses the constitution? The debt of faith...
