I've been here for 12 years and have had the opportunity to teach at a variety of different places, 3 years at a hogwan, then 3 years at a university, 2 years at a high school, now going on my 4th year at a company. Working at a university did have its perks, working M-Th with lots of vacation in the summer and winter. The pay was ok but housing wasn't free. Since I was married I used the faculty housing they had available but it was 600 000 won a month which really cut into the salary. I moved onto teach at the high school for better pay and housing provided but obviously did take a big pay cut in vacation.
Working at a company has been the most lucrative but I must commute by company bus an hour each way which isn't all that fun. I've decided to find my own place (I'm married with 2 kids, still only 35 though) and get back into a university job. It'll mean more time with the family and no commuting. I'm targeting September but I know usually the majority of the hiring is done for March. Anyone have any advice for possible September openings? Should I wait for the March semester instead or is there a chance of getting a position in the fall? I don't want to go back to my old university as the curriculum and conditions have drastically changed. |

Apply whenever you see a slot come open and good luck to you. 600K for university housing? Yeesh. |
