This may only concern a few people, mainly the ones who are still waiting to be paid after months and months of stress. Myself being one of them. English Channels Head Office disappeared a few months ago and have done well avoiding everyone up until now.

This is where they are hiding..........

Hanlim Building 4th Floor
956-6 Daechi-Dong
Gangnam-Gu
Seoul

JRDavies, what money are you waiting on, final payment after leaving the country? If you've left Korea (as it sounds from your post), think you might as well save yourself the stress and forget about it. I don't like saying that...but think it's true.

Is the address an office? I know that the old recruiter guy (Bob) had a house in Daechi. How did you come by this address?

Not what the OP said, good job twisting it around though. With EC the only way to get paid is to become a thorn in their side. They count on people not being persistent, either because they leave the country or otherwise.

I've been to a head office of a hagwon who stole my deposit money to pay for utilities.

The threatened to call the police if I didn't leave. What am I going to do, stay there?

Uhm... well you had to pay for the utilities when you moved out. If you haven't been paying utilities... it's not stealing.

If you were current on utilities, and can prove it... then go to the labor board.

I doubt that the OP ever got the money, but it's worth pointing out that EC are recruiting again, so presumably found some money from somewhere, at least to string some more innocent people along before ripping them off.

EC got some new owners- ie investors. I know the guy who was/ kinda still is the recruiter (he was a regular teacher for a while).

Lots of people didn't get their final pay, some went without regular pay, pensions were not being paid, just to name a few crummy things they did. As was pointed out, you do need to be thorn in their *** to get paid. Some of the teachers resorted to shady things to get their money, like resigning and taking the midnight run. I think that only worked for a little bit, though.

I was current on utilities and gave the hagwon cash to pay for the last month. The cash disappeared and the utilities came out of my bank account.

I didn't get a receipt for the cash.

EC are advertising again - yet I've heard more talk from EC people I know (two of them are Korean teachers who've recently walked out on EC with money owed) that EC are still in dire business trouble, despite having had a cash injection.

Warning to anyone considering a job with them - do yourself a favor and keep looking. The working conditions are horrible, the pay per hour is terrible, unpaid holidays, blue lab coats and you'll generally be expected to act like a clown. They are in the edutainment business, as their recruiter in chief put it.
