You gotta be on wack! There's no "pop" in that song at all.
A great pop song is one which you hate but which just keeps "popping" up in your head. You can't get away from it. Many examples... Little Richard probably was the king of this sort of stuff (think tutti frutti or bama lama) but it keeps popping up every year. My own recent example would be this incredibly horrible song.

The Wonder Girls' "Nobody" would fit the category for Korea.

I would give that song a lot more credit than just a pop song..It's just good music and shouldn't be relegated to the same status as SuperJunior or Big Bang.
Also, take notice how the members in Jackson Browne play actual music instruments (and rather proficiently too). How many members in SuperJunior..like 13....and don't even play anything.... |

| I'd say that Build Me Up Buttercup is the best pop song in history. Same general genre as other 'pop' music but clearly the top of its class. |

I don't know about the greatest pop song but this is a damn good one - it is upbeat but is had a dark manic street preachers vibe to it (as it was written by them) a manics song sung by Kylie Minogue - just pure class!

B. Womack is huge, one of the all time greats. His obscure songs
are classics.
Wonder Girls and the word great should never appear in the same sentence.
"Somebody's Baby" charted #7 in 1982...and certainly is a pop song.
"Pop" is from the word popular....which SB was. It was also
featured prominently in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. If you
haven't seen that movie get with it. |

Based on the definition given in the Wikipedia article, I would consider Rick Astley's song to be Pop music, Jackson Brown's song to be rock/pop, Bobby Womack's R&B, and "Crazy World of Arthur Brown" to be pychedelic rock.
From the Wiki...
Pop music is a music genre that features a noticeable rhythmic element, melodies and hooks, a mainstream style and a conventional structure.
The term "pop music" was first used in 1926 in the sense of "having popular appeal" (see popular music), but since the 1950s it has been used in the sense of a musical genre, originally characterized as a lighter alternative to rock and roll.
The standard format of pop music is the song, customarily less than five minutes in duration, with instrumentation that can range from an orchestra to a lone singer. Pop songs are generally marked by a consistent and noticeable rhythmic element, a mainstream style and traditional structure. Common variants are the verse-chorus form and the thirty-two-bar form, with a focus on melodies and catchy hooks, and a chorus that contrasts melodically, rhythmically and harmonically with the verse.[3] Lyrics in pop music are frequently about love, relationships and life experiences. The primary objectives of the pop music genre are audience enjoyment and commercial success.[4] This of course does not imply that those goals are achieved by every song in the genre.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pop_music
It gets complicated when it lists 17 sub-genres and 11 "fusion genres" ... |

Sorry but you don't get it. Look at the wikipedia article quoted above but most importantly dwell on this one salient fact of what a pop song is...
A pop song does not try to be something. It does not try to establish a new identity or genre. It simply takes what is pleasant at the time and rehashes it. 'round and 'round..... If it is an old pop song, it still gives us the sense of "round and "round. It is counter to the tradional view of creation as revolutionary and counter culture.
I was going to suggest Thriller or Billie Jean but due to their rather strong anti social elements and extreme creative, they are disqualified. Even some of the young MJ is, like ABC, because he is "too much into it" Pop music means you aren't that into it - the audience is!!!!!!
Big country TRIES to be unique. Therefore, it is not PoP MuSiC.
