Use this until your next install, then go legit with the key again.

Thanks, but what is it, and what does it do?

It will provide you a new serial, change it within windows and make it "genuine" for updates.

Hey, thanks a lot. I did it and then was able to update. I got powerpoint viewer to work, but still no luck with the Microsoft Word that came with the bogus reinstall.

I meant to say from a torrent site. Either from there or from the internets. Cool

As this point ( after reformat + re-install ) it will very difficult to recover much. If your hard drive is big, and was almost full maybe you will have some luck.

Next time, I would recommend booting off of a live CD - like Ubuntu or Fedora. From there you can back up your interesting files before the re-install. You may even be able to clean your machine using Clam antivirus.

You'd be surprised how much can be recovered, even after a "low level" format (not a quick format). I fixed my neighbour's computer recently, and he didn't tell me about a folder he had outside of his Documents and Settings folder that had all of his important pictures on it.

I used a file recovery tool from Seagate (I think), and I was able to get 100% of his pictures back.

So yeah, nothing is ever really deleted unless you wipe it. When I sold my old PowerBook last year, I wiped the drive... 120GB took a L O N G time to 7-pass wipe. This is also especially true for USB keys and other flash memory modules. I ran a file recovery app on my camera card for shits and giggles, and I was able to fully recover pictures taken over 3 years ago.

No, I wasn't making fun of anyone. You just sounded humorously naive, that's all. Wink

My Dearest Angelina,

My love, it has been a most trying week. Who would have thought that doing undercover research for a movie about an English teacher in Korea could be so hard. I am about ready to tell Quentin to take this role and shove it. It has become almost unbearable. The bratty kids, the two-faced hogwan owners, and the almost inedible food is starting to weigh heavy on me. The physical preparation I did for Troy is child's play compared to this. How I long for the torrid nights like we enjoyed while filming Mr. and Mrs. Smith. But Q. insists that I stay incognito, with no visits from you my darling, insisting I use the make-up guy from Benjamin B. to hide my identity.

And now, to add insult to injury, even the computer geeks are cracking on me. It is a most vexing turn of events, my love, for at first they could not wait to help me. Especially, the one known as Demophobe, who helped me immensely by providing a key source to fix a computer problem I was experiencing. He is actually calling me, get a load of this, "humorously naive", can you believe it, ......me....... BP. Anjie my dearest, I am not sure what I was naive about, though I admit to being less than computer savvy. But this Demophobe is a most puzzling guy. He can't seem to make up his mind whether emoticons are suitable or not. But I am still grateful to him nonetheless!!

Darling, I must close now. Give the kids a kiss for me when you tuck them in. Please promise me you won't go back to Cambodia for more until we discuss it.

Love,

BP.
