Hiya,
Anybody here use metal or plastic holders for chalk when writing on the board?
Where did you get them?
Thanks,

Everyone at my school beginning this semester uses plastic chalk holders. They're issued to us free along with the new kind of chalk, biochalk. No more chalk dust! |

That would be kinda cool to have a real chalkboard. We have white boards. |

I see, you're in one of those futuristic schools. Probably in Seoul somewhere. Well, don't come bragging here with your "dust-less chalk" and your "we're all issued them free" talk.
ps-Your school looking for any more teachers? |

Except for the fact that white board markers don't last long, especially in frantic illustration mode, white boards are much nicer.
Chalk dust will really get to you after a "while."
Dust-free chalk, unless it's been improved, is too hard and often not as visible as you want, and tends to crumble and screeech too easily.
It IS heavier and better suited for throwing at sleeping students' heads though.
I go through chalk too fast so the holders are a hassle to keep extending the chalk during class.
Yes, the ultra dry chalk fingers are a concern. Moisturize well on breaks. |

After two years of using a white board and markers, I now use chalk boards (which I much prefer). I never use a chalk holder... and HATE coloured chalk! |

Public school in Busan, actually. In one of the not-so-rich areas. And the school's not futuristic at all. Alas, we're only allowed the one foreigner and I'm not moving.

This bio-chalk is pretty cool and it doesn't screech at all. Erasing it is a bit disgusting at first as one must use a damp eraser.

Don't know how this stuff works for that but I do know it tastes rather terrible (accidentally picked up a piece while eating potato chips at my desk). Maybe I could trick a misbehaving student into tasting it? |

I got mine at Kyobo. Sold right next to the chalk. |

Most teachers at my place just wrap some paper around the stick - then it's quite easy to extend as the chalk wears down (some teachers have their students make them, with scissors and glue and everything). |
