If Madonna were having her own baby, the OP would be upset and say why didn't she adopt. Self-paralyzing skepticism.

What makes me uncomfortable about celebrities adopting internationally is what seems to be "I'm saving the world" motives.
Adoption should be *first and foremost* about one's family!

I've never adopted, and am trying to imagine how someone makes a choice like that (not the adption part, but rather who to adopt) - I suppose that the family, the chil, and theestimated 'mix' of it all would come into play.

CC, kids are kids--I don't think it matters who.

We bailed 2 brothers--4 yrs old & 10 yrs old, out of separate orphanages in Ukraine and put them back together. We had absolutely no idea whom we were coming home with. It wasn't an issue for us. Most people don't go for that--they want pre-selection through an agency. Ukraine doesn't allow "shopping", or agencies. We liked that.
We just gave the gov't the following parameters: 2 to 3 siblings, boys or girls, from age 3 to 12. We wanted to adopt older kids.
Once in Kiev they showed us a few files. We picked the first file they showed us. Went and met them. They were fine. Asked them if they wanted to join our family. They said yes.
Done deal.

They're awesome kids. The little rapscallion in my avatar is Toli--now 6--hasn't been here yet 2 years and he's almost beating me down the hill--without bricks in his pockets for extra weight.

That's a great story, canuck.

We also "discriminated" and adopted a Mexican baby boy. (Wife was Mexican.)

The adoptive mother who helped us told the following story: When her son was in first grade, the children were asked, "What does 'love' mean?" Her son, who'd been told of his origins since he could understand, replied "To adopt!"

Interesting stories guys. I was never quite clear on how someone chose. Did they go in to an orphanage, wander around until they stumbled upon a kid that seemed 'right'?

I honestly didn't know.

The question is kind of bogus. Who said anything was wrong with adopting children in America?

People who adopt and give a kid a better life are doing good work. I don't think Madonna even lives in America, does she?

Great question, Gopher.

But might I have the Audacity of Scope to argue that the only children Madonna should be adopting are the ones she already has and neglects by leading such an immoral, narcissistic life on stage and off.

I can think of few celebrities I'm more sick of hearing about. She has a cause for every occasion--typical Hollywood liberal.
