|
|
Ok, so I know the basics of this. I have a new MacBook, and a Belkin wireless router. I went into network, advanced setting. Then I set my IP to the same address that it was automatically set to. I just don't want it to change, because i'm port forwarding for Utorrent and XBlive, and if my IP changes it messes everything up. So, I set it to Static and kept the ip the same. When I have it like this however, I can't access any websites other than google. I can go on skype, and I can even get search results from google, but if i go to any other website, even through a link, it doesn't work. When I set it back to automatic, it keeps the same IP and everything works again. Then, a day or two later, my IP changes and messes everything up again. Anyone have any ideas why this is or what I can do to fix it? Thank you. |

the address shouldn't be changing on a home router for that. DHCP leases are generally for 24 hours and unless someone else has taken the address, the computer (at least windows anyway) always asks for the same address it had last time even if the lease is expired. If your belkin is constantly handing out new addresses its a little strange.
That being said when you set the static address are you also setting the DNS servers? |

Yea sorry, I forgot to mention that I am setting the DNS as well. I can't seem to figure this out, even when the IP does not change for a few days, after a day Utorrent starts acting like the port is not being forwarded again. I have that program set to a certain port, so I'm really not sure what the problem is. It's an N router, a pretty decent one as far as I know... |

You shouldn't need to set DNS. It should be set automatically. You don't need to set a static IP.
I suggest going to Network Preferences, and at the top of the Network Preferences pane, pull down the menu where is says "Location".
Select "edit location" and then hit the "+"
Add a new location and go through the set up again.
