As strange as it sound you might want to look on Amazon first. It should give you some explanation. |

Yes, Amazon ships to Korea. It's a bit pricey with the exchange rate, but doable. You might want to write down what books you want, go to Kyobo, Whatthebook or B & L and ask them to order the books. All are quite happy to do so. |

I was looking at some books on tropical farming from Amazon last night and wondered exactly the same thing.
Ya-Ta. Do those book stores pass on the (bulk I assume) shipping cost to the customer won for won, or are you saying it's cheaper to order through them? |

There is a limit... maybe 100,000 to 150,000 won? At this limit, customs will hold and tax/surcharge your order.
Keep the orders under 100,000 including shipping. Shipping is counted toward this, as well. |

Amazon does ship to Korea but not everything they sell. Only certain items can be shipped here.
The shipping is a bit expensive too. |

Like the previous poster said, some things they don't ship, like grocery items. When I first came here, I was all stoked, thinking I might be able to order some food items through Amazon, something I couldn't do the last time I was here (being in the military). Well, it turns out that military can actually do it (through an apo box) but it can't be done through regular shipping. Kind of sucked.
I tried ordering a couple of other items (games) through amazon, and each time I tried, it kept denying me, so finally I just stopped trying. I don't even order books through them now. I use http://bookdepository.co.uk now to order books sent here. Bought quite a few through them, and when I ordered they didn't even charge me for shipping. No, I don't work for them or get any commissions from them.
A friend of mine swears by amazon, but again, it hasn't worked for me, but I gave up after trying the first few things, so I don't use them myself. I have been tempted to use LLBean for clothing, cause others have said good things about them, but I'm starting to suspect that I'm not long for the Korean world so, I've decided to stop ordering things. A couple of times things haven't gone through completely with Korean mail, so I'm really apprehensive about trying it these days as I paid a lot of money for shipping on something once only to have it returned because they said it was refused on my end (no one would have done that). |

Interesting. Books are SO cheap on amazon... I've never really looked before, but every book I find is under four dollars. I wonder just how bad the extra shipping charges are, and if it's worth it. |

I have no idea. Each place seems to have its own system for ordering, shipping and charging. It seems to me to be cheaper to order through a book store than straight from Amazon, but roughly the same. If it is cheaper to go through a bookstore, I assume it's because of bulk rates.
I usually use Amazon because I like the site's system of leading you to books with similar themes. It's something like browsing in a bookstore. I hate Whatthebook's system. Unless I know exactly what I'm looking for, it's useless. My feeling is: Why bother looking it up in Amazon and then switching over to Whatthebook just to order it?
But if you know what you want, I've found all the bookstores to be very willing to help and efficient in service. |
