Hi,

Just wondering how long the cherry blossom lasts? Will it still be around this weekend? Also, where are the best places to see it in Seoul (apart from Yeoido)?

Thanks! Very Happy

I'd also like to know the answer to this one. I went down to Gwangju Jeolla-do at the weekend for a friends birthday and managed to sleep through all the cherry blossoms on the coach so I want another fix before I have to wait another year. I know about Yeouido but it is a bit of a pain to get to from my location.

[edit] I just found out about Neung-dong park from one of my coteachers, anyone know anything about it?

I went to Children's Grand Park on sunday...that was pretty nice, although too crowded (to be expected though). I just want to know whether to get off my arse this week before work, or whether to wait until the weekend and have a couple of full-on cherry blossom days........

I'd prefer the latter but I don't want to leave it too late.

Yunjungno, near the National Assembly and walk westwards from the main gate. It`s a long boulevard lined with Sakura trees.

Namsan Cherry Blossom festival starts today until Saturday. I'd suggest going to the jogging course as it's not very crowded.

I've heard Namsan will be better than Yeoido...too many people at the latter (2.5 million show up there every year).

Also, there is an Orchid Exhibition going on at Seoul Grand Park's botanical garden.

Expect HUGE crowds. That means the subway stations will be jammed packed and ALL of the restaurants will be crowded.

I went to Gyeungbokgung this morning. Really pretty there at the moment. I would get there in the next day or two if you were thinking about it though as the blossom was coming off already. Some really stunning trees there and plenty of blossom near the lake with the big building (not the little pagoda) in it.

I went to Changgyeonggung this morning (near Hyehwa station) and it was stunning! Surprisingly peaceful as well. Smile

Cherry blossoms here are not that impressive. A sidewalk on a busy road with people taking the peace sign pictures is quite an obstacle to maneuver through. Definitely search for a park.

I went to Seoul this past weekend and various types of flower trees were in full bloom. Some with huge blooms and others with small blooms in varying pastel shades. Very pretty.

The blooming trees just started yesterday afternoon in Gangwondo in the higher elevation Taebaek mountain range areas, but trees are only 3 to 4 meters high and so few. I noticed a truck today loaded with sawed off branches of cherry blossoms and then noticed some of the small local trees having had their limbs sawed off. Kind of an eyesore to see people destroying a beautiful thing. The only ones that survived are on private fenced in property. Why not just pluck the blooms by hand to harvest them instead of sawing off the branches?
