I work at a hagwon. I had put my 45 day notice in to quit and my 45th day notice would have ended this coming Sunday (2 days from now). However my boss asked me to work a few extra days for him beyond that and I agreed to help him out....which was apparently a big mistake.
Today he went bezerk and told me I needed to be out of my apartment tonight and that he would cancel my visa monday at immigration. I have bought my plane ticket and it's not until April 18th, so that leaves me in a bind with my visa. I am thinking I need to go to Immigration Monday and change my E-2 Visa into an American Tourist Visa. But what if he cancels my visa before I go and change it? I've done a lot of looking online at the the Korean Immigration Website and it seems as though because I won't be changing my visa type 3 days prior to it's expiration I could get in trouble? (I'm counting the 3 days from my last {45th} day). OR should I be ok because my visa technically doesn't expire until September? (I'm leaving at the 7 month mark).
I'm flustered and completely freaking out right now. I would write more details into what happened but I've heard with great certainty that people have gotten in trouble with the law when writing negative things online about their jobs....I do promise to post details though when I'm back in America.
ALSO does anyone know if the Incheon Immigration office is open on Saturday/Sunday?? I've called and tried to get someone to speak English and it's been to no avail...and the hours aren't listed on the website. |

Don't worry too much. You've got your plane ticket out of Korea. Two possible scenarios that I can think of:
1. Your boss cancels your visa before you get to immigration. Solution: You go to immigration and request an extension of your stay until the date on your ticket. They'll grant it.
2. Your boss doesn't go through the trouble to cancel your visa. You leave the country on the 18th and cancel the visa yourself at the airport immigration.
Too bad about your terrible experience here. When you get to the airport you should make sure that your visa IS CANCELED should you decided to return to Korea before your visa expiration date. |

The bigger problem is accomodation. Do you have a place to stay? Your last day was naturally on the 12th.. Where were you planning on staying after that?
He can't really kick you out of your apartment tonight, but if he has keys to your apartment, he can certainly make your life miserable. It would be expensive to change the locks now. |

| Thank God my boyfriend is alright with my staying with him. A friend helped me pack up my stuff quickly and I just left. I wouldn't feel comfortable even staying there, even if it is illegal (which I completely believe) for him to kick me out. |

| One person said you can go to immy and get a departure extension. This is true. You'll probably get 30 days, even though your departure date is the 18th. More than likely your boss won't cancel the visa on Monday before you get the extension. The extension is free, btw. You'll need to take your passport, ARC, and plane ticket to immy. They'll stamp your passport, write the new expiration date on the back of your ARC, and keep a xerox copy of both your plane ticket and ARC. It takes about 15 minutes after you get to the desk. There is a form you'll need to fill out. I think it's just that one form you fill out for just about everything an E2 does there. |
