Hi,
Anybody got any idea where I could get some French lessons around Suwon/Seoul. I heard there was a French quater in Seoul somewhere but I've not checked it out yet. Any info would be great.

korea4expats.com has a discussion forum, and one of the topics is in French--you can post there looking for a French tutor.

A lot of French people live in Seoraemaeul, which is in the vicinity of Banpo/Bangbaedong, west of Express Bus Terminal and close to the Palace Hotel. Just down the street from Bangbae Middle School.

I have met a few Koreans who lived abroad or grew up in France and speak French like native Parisians. One of these was a young woman I met on a bus in Suwon, but we lost touch. I once lived in France and Switzerland and speak French so it is easy for me to tell. Your challenge of course will be to find someone who will make the time to teach you privately and not cost a fortune. I am not aware of any formal group classes but they surely exist. A friend taught French at a University in Northeastern Seoul a number of years ago, but that is quite far from Suwon.

You could try writing a letter to 10 magazine and see if it gets any bites. Stephen Revere did a piece last month on where to learn Korean in Seoul, so either he or one of the readers may be able to help if nothing else pans out, but I would imagine the French Cultural centre could point you in the right direction.

there are quite a few native French speakers in Seoul. in fact, i was one of them and gave a few lessons here and there.

definitely check out the cultural centre. not sure much is going on in the Seorae area, but also check out the Lyc�e Fran�ais, they might offer some kind of program.

Seorae is worth checking out at least once, it's a nice little block with some cute restaurants and caf�s.
