I have 2 bank accounts in Korea and an old ARC number.

Think I can get internet installed in my new apartment without a new ARC? Will an old ARC number work?

Where would my best shot at internet be?

My CT told me I was going to have 30,000 won put in my account for a promotion for signing up for my internet. Apparently it is one month's internet fee that they give back. It was with a year's contract that the school set up.

Do you know what company it is? Did the school get it in your name?

No, I believe the school got it in their name until I get my ARC this time, at which time I can change the name. My name might be connected with the school though. Will ask my CT tomorrow after lunch, and let you know.

Thanks,

I asked my recruiter and she supposedly asked my school and they refused to help me. But it would be great to know if they got it in your name or if they had got it in theirs and what company it is.

I don't understand this thread, sorry. Three times, in three different apartments, i got internet service setup in Seoul. I never once needed to use my ARC or passport. Each time some guy just showed up, fiddled about with some cables, asked me to sign something and pay a fee (usually about 50,000) and then buggered off. It was all good after that 15 minute visit.

FYI: the last time was when I lived in Haebangchon. I got a number for a guy who spoke English and arranged it with him. I had to pay a bit more than usual, but it seemed to be good for a year. All I know is he put in internet and cable TV. I paid 100,000 on the spot but never received a bill after that. I moved out 6 months later but it was still all working.

This was about a year ago, I'm not sure if I'm looking at the right business card, but I just found one with "Cable & More" on it. The number is 011-413-0032. As I said, this might actually be the wrong card - it's been a year after all. Still, no harm in calling it and see what happens.

I'm in China now so I can't realistically call to check.

Worth a shot if all else fails.

I called KT and they said you can do it with just a passport number. The first month is free and no install fees. I am worried since last time I was in Korea was KT and I did a runner so afraid they will notice, but it was in Incheon.

All other internet companies appear to need an ARC. I have called a lot and even had my Korean friend call around... I asked my recruiter and school and they said I need an ARC.

I am just getting shafted everywhere, so any help is great. I want to set this up as soon as possible.

Tonight I will call that number and see if it's a korean guy that speaks english and installs internet. Haha.

Ok, for the record I got it without an ARC

Here's how

Call KT - 1588 8448 (they speak english)
Press 1
Tell them you want internet and you don't have an ARC, they will ask for your passport photo, so take a picture of your passport photo page and email it to them

Call them back and they will confirm your passport number, tell them your address and they will discuss the plan with you

Have it installed, and done

1 year plan = no monthly fee, first month free
