Hey gang;

I am preparing to go to Korea and would like to have a few friends there before I arrive, in addition to somebody to help me learn Korean.

The first time I went to Japan, I used an "international friends" (or something, it was quite some time ago) website, and it made my experience there all the better - I met some very cool people that showed me around that I still continue to talk to and became life-long friends with (this was... yikes, six years ago!).

I know there must be such a thing in Korea, but I don't know where to begin looking. Google search does nothing to tell me which are popular in Korea. Has anybody had any experience with these things?

(P.S. - is search broken? It has been hanging on a blank screen for me)

I know that alot of koreans use www.penpalworld.com and www.interpals.com so you might like to try them out. You could also try couchsearch.com where you can arrange to meet up with people and have them show you around a bit.

Which part of korea will you be going and when? I plan on going soon so I've been searching similar things but I'll probably end up at a hostel by myself!

hanlingo.com is by far and above the best free site I've found. More Koreans there than any other language exchange website.

Well, I'm looking at Seoul or Busan. Are you going there to work? I don't have the courage to go before I have a job set up, so I'm looking over some things here in America before I go.

Many thanks to the serious responses.
