My friend and I get lunches from the cafeteria at our schools. I was told I would have to pay, but not how much, and that it would be deducted from my pay. He was told today that he has to pay 5000 won a day by his coteacher. We're hoping he meant 5000 won a week, because 100 000 won a month seems excessive for a bowl of soup and some rice.

You do not have to pay, if you bring in your own lunch. That's what I do. Laughing

Your 'freind' should have got them to write the amount down on a bit of paper.

I've found that Koreans (even the ones with great english) often mix up numbers.

As for lunches I dont have to pay Smile but I know of others who do. They generally pay around 50,000 a month for them.

Same, mine are about 2000w a day. Don't you get a pay stub every month? Your deductions should be on there - tax, pension, lunch, etc.

The wifey and I make our own lunches, usually. We just bring them to school with us. Although, we could buy lunches for about 2,000 won each (e.g. sandwhich and drink) or 3,500 in the cafeteria.

Our lunches taste better! Twisted Evil

I think my lunches are free at a high school. I do work two nights a week and I need to pay 3000 w for those dinners. I remember something about lunches being free, but now I am wondering if they are. I actually like the lunches! Sandwiches get old after a while.

I pay nothing since the school's not exactly vegetarian-friendly and I bring my own food in, go somewhere for lunch, or just skip it and pig out at home after school. The price, for those who do patronize the school cafeteria, is 2200 won per meal.

My lunches are 4,000w per meal.

However, the meals are awesome. Usually 5 different side dishes, plus soup. Its buffet style so you take as little or much as you want. None of the "1 piece of chicken per person" crap.

Also, you sign in everytime you go to lunch, so I don't need to haggle the accounting office about the days I didn't eat lunch.

The lunches are so good I usually look forward to them.

We pay 3,000 per meal. I enjoy the buffet style cafeteria food and some days I eat lunch and dinner here. You can sign or buy tickets (same price). I buy tickets because I hate paying up at the end of the month for food that has long since been evacuated.
