I am going to purchase a new cellphone on the weekend.
My old one is now 5 years old.
Can anyone suggest the latest best cellphone which they really recommend as a great cellphone?
all suggestions welcome. (links even better).
(I will keep my cellphone account ongoing with KT - and will keep the same cellphone number - just want to upgrade my phone). |

Do you need a smart phone or just a phone?
If you go to the same company that sells your phone now, they can transfer all your contact information onto the new phone, so you won't lose any names or numbers. |

someone was bragging about their omnia not too long ago. Do a search. He said there was a program to get most of the menus in English. |

I'm in the a similar boat; finally got a payday and it's time for a fancy phone. While that Omnia HD looks really awesome, I'm not really keen to wait X months for it since I'm only planning on being here 1 year (11 months now). Might have to settle for the regular old plain Omnia I guess. What I want in in a phone is a good camera, a media player, some internet access would be good, and (duh) a phone.
It's not possible to get a Blackberry Storm working over here is it? |

You could get the Haptic 2, which has virtually the same OS. |

That seems like a decent phone, but I can't find any information about it other than a whole bunch of nearly identical articles from September of last year, when it launched. You know of any reviews? And are any of these phones mentioned able to do a pay-as-you-go plan? |

Got the new phone on Saturday.
I was pleasantly surprised - the "KT Show" guy at the shop (Sadang station exit 5) was very professional, kind and honest". He was actually very kind towards a foreigner. He even moved all my stored name/phone numbers from the old phone onto the new phone for me. (Couldn't move the pics - so I just erased them).
Gave me the phone I wanted, the color, 2 free phone cases, free cables (to connect it to the computer to download/upload pics, movies etc).
The phone was 890,000won - but I just took the 50,000won per month plan. It gives me 250 minutes of free phone calls per month and text messages at 4 won each.
I absolutely LOVE the phone. Its touch screen and amazing.
Its like holding a small computer in my hand.
compared to my old (dinosour) phone - this one is beautiful and fun - just to play with. Has the 5.0 Mega auto focus camera, TV, movies, 8GB, subway maps, navigation everything.
I am still figuring out exactly how to use it - don't want to boast - but I love it. Its like having a computer, PSP, I-pod and phone all in one.
p.s. The KTF shop wanted to keep my old phone.. anyone know why they keep the old phones? |

I got the "Samsung (Show) Haptic 2 - Full touch HSDPA 5M Camera Phone, SPH-W5500"
I just love playing with it http://haptic.anycall.com/206
( It came completely in ENGLISH - (no Korean))
but there is a language button to change to many languages...
To get the Samsung Omnia - the guys at KTF Show told me I would have to go the SK (just upstairs) - but I couldn't be bothered - I don't want to do business with SK - they have always been no good to foreigners.. so I just took KTF's best phone... (apparently SK has a special deal running with Samsung Omnia - so they are the only company who can provide that phone) - I don't like SK - so I chose the KTF Haptic 2
My Korean friend who was with me (translating) now thinks I am a GEEK - I don't think so - (it has taken me all day today just to figure out what buttons to press) I just like upgrading... |

Are these phones (Omnia, Haptic 2, Xperia) really nearly a million won AND you have to sign a monthly contract? And is 50,000 won for a mere 4 hours of talk time normal? Those prices seem crazy high. |

The Haptic 2 I purchased was 890,000won. However, The only thing I paid was 30,000won for the sim card.
The 890,000won is paid over a 24 month (contract) = 50,000won/month contract
(phone is 37,000won per month + 13,000won for the other services I am getting (cable tv in the phone, 250 minutes/month free phone calls, internet/email in the phone, 4won text messages, etc)
*You don't have to pay for anything except the sim card (30,000won) when you purchase the phone - the phone is actually paid off over 24 months.
If you don't want a 24/month contract with KTF/LG then I guess you could just go to SK and pay them 1million won for the phone and then pay each month for pre-paid phone calls - (with no contract/monthly bill) but that sucks...
From what I know the best option for foreigners is LG - as they are now foreigner friendly.. however - I am not even sure if LG is offering the omnia or haptic to foreigners...
KTF trusted me - because I have been with them for 8 years and I had a Korean friend to help me.
When I return to my homecountry - (maybe in two years) I will be able to take the sim card out - put in a sim card from my homecountry and continue using the phone in my home country. But by that time - (2 years) it may be time to upgrade again? |
