I've heard you can use Skype on the ipod touch but the only drawback is you have to be within proximity of a wireless network. Would it be worth it to buy one for that purpose or is wireless lacking in Seoul?

There are a few problems with using the Touch as your main communication device.

1: Wireless coverage is not universal (though you can get a subscription to Nespot for not too much coin.)

2. You wouldn't be able to reliably receive calls. (You'd have to turn off the standby feature and leave skype running constantly, which is problematic with the touch screen and all.)

3. Wi-fi eats your battery in like an hour.

Does it matter which generation iPod Touch it is? Does that new store Frisbee sell the mic?

I used mine yesterday for the first time to call the UK. It's a 2nd generation ipod touch and bought the earphones with microphone at Emart for around 30k.

I had been using skpye through my laptop to call companies (credit card, bank etc) but the signal was usually awful and they couldn't hear me.
With my ipod it was just like using a mobile (but obviously loads cheaper).
I'm hoping to sign up for nespot today so will see what the coverage is like there. There is still the issue of not being really able to receive calls but purely for outgoing then I rate it.

Sign up for nespot play. They take your ipod mac address and then it will connect seamlessly to all nespot sites in korea. It's only 3,300 won per month!

How ubiquitous is nespot? How do you sign up for it?
