"If United really cared about the comfort of their passengers, they would order planes with more space for everyone."
Not surprisingly the campaigners are not familiar with physics. See, the airline wont put in half as many, bigger seats because then they'd have to charge twice as much for every ticket and they'd go out of business. See, there's this thing called 'volume' and the airplane only has so much. You cant just push a magic button to 'add more, bigger seats'.
I also notice the campaigners nor their lawyers never mention the discomfort of other passengers who havnt binged on junk food their entire lives. Airline seats arent couches, but if you cant fit into one you dont need to protest, you need to see a damn doctor. |

I don't see why fat people really need to fly anyway. There's plenty of food available at the grocery store! |

I guess fat people can fly on Canadian airlines:
http://www.reuters.com/article/rbssAirlines/idUSN2039776920081120
Obese people have the right to two seats for the price of one on flights within Canada, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled on Thursday.
The high court declined to hear an appeal by Canadian airlines of a decision by the Canadian Transportation Agency that people who are "functionally disabled by obesity" deserve to have two seats for one fare.
The airlines had lost an appeal at the Federal Court of Appeal in May and had sought to launch a fresh appeal at the Supreme Court. The court's decision not to hear a new appeal means the one-person-one-fare policy stands. |

Being fat is a choice. It is a choice that impacts the person sitting next to you on the plane, and the amount of fuel consumed on the flight.
So. Don't be fat. No problem. |

I totally understand United's viewpoint.
However, I suppose with 70% of the US's population being overweight, they might consider making a small section with larger seats. Give them a kind name like "luxury seating" and charge more for them (like the equivalent of 2 seats). I think there's a certain humiliation that goes with requiring two seats. Eliminate the stigma by turning it into prestige.
I heard some airlines won't charge the full price for the second seat anyway if the flight isn't fully booked. So that's nice... |

The seats used to be bigger but the airlines put in smaller seats to get more passengers. To increase their profits. Now they want to charge more. Ha what a load of hot air. Just put the planes back to the way they were in the 80's bigger seats and more comfort otherwise quit whining about body size. |

Good. Maybe they'll all fly on American Airlines, which also has fat flight attendants that smash their booties in the faces of aisle seat passengers who are trying to sleep. |
