I can't tell you how disappointed I was when I heard what goes in a Korean sundae.

I finally got around to trying sundae from a street vendor and I was pretty disappointed. It was rather bland, so I had some ddukbaegi thrown on top to make it a little more edible.

There are a few things I wouldn't let them go anywhere near my mouth and soondae is one of them.. you'd pretty much have to put a gun next to me to force me to try it. Razz

That's the thing, Tze, it's...you know.. decent. I wouldn't kick it out of bed for eating crackers. But if you go to any next Korean on the street and say "I just don't dig Soondae" they would be like "that's cool."

I was in the street market with a couple of my kids this week and I know the mandu lady. I said something was too sweet. The cook from the back was all 'wtf' and my kid translated 'sweet' ... he grabbed me a sample of something else.

It's a common misconception among Seoulites (and you not being one, I trust your opinion more than most), that all Korean food is the same. It's for a fact, NOT.

Saying you don't like Soondae is saying you don't like beer. There are some commonalities among beer which, if you don't like them, you don't like beer.

You, personally, know that there are commonalities among soondae that you don't like. But there are people here who have never tasted anything but one type and said the shit is crap.

For the newbies here (not you), the black soondae is relatively similar. Check Cuisine Tour on Arirang. There is a HUGE variety of soondae.

But if you don't dig blood....you're not gonna dig it, and that's the end.

Word to ya, by the way, Tze, I got a possible job offer in May 2010. Sounds really good...

Instead of the soondae they make with the clear noodles in it, try to find soodae made with sticky rice (chopsal). I found some at hyundia department story basement food court. Damn good.
