I'd be willing to bet there will be a fee involved -

OP - if you have opened a bank acc here you can deposit it - but don't you realize it's going to have to clear before the bank will give you the funds? and there may be a minimum amount of time for that - heck - my bank in the u.s. takes 5 days for an out-of-state check to clear, minimum.

why on earth would you leave your home country with nothing but personal checks for your cash source? Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes seriously??

all that aside, you probably need someone to wire you funds and you send them a check.

if you have a job (??) maybe your director/vp can deposit it in their acc and give you the funds now.

if you have no job and no director, then asking a friend overseas to wire may be your only option because the chances for a K bank to cash an out-of-country personal check are, well, nil.

I'd wish you good luck but sounds like what you need is a knock in the noggin Shocked

I lost my atm card a day before I left (sigh). Yes I have a job. I have only been in the country two weeks, and I was mostly training that whole time. To be frank I was pretty broke before I came here, I don't have any credit cards and I just need to get my money from my account. Can any bank help me with wirring money?

Yes, it's gonna cost ya...

After you get the cash you need to tide you over, get a replacement bank card mailed over to you somehow. They may not want to mail to a new, overseas address without a big written request runaround. Get someone at home, by email, to sign you up for a Skype account, and send you the bank phone number. Then you can call them from your computer. You can report the card lost and they'll send off a new one to your home address. Then the folks at home can mail it to you. If they have your bank statements at home, they may even be able to call the bank and request the replacement card (pose as you). This is assuming you have folks at home to help take care of business for you.

well then perhaps your embassy might be able to help you - but some are more helpful than others - the American Embassy being the least helpful of all - would seem they can verify to a bank that you are actually in country which would facilitate that aspect of it for the bank.

I've asked for an advance for nearly every job I've had here and never had a problem - and if you have money back home, you sound like it will be covered if your salary is a little less the first time (after the advance) - so tell your boss you need some money. fyi, I've never even bothered to give an explanation, just I need x amount now I have no money.

then in the mean time you can set up getting a replacement card. if it's an american bank they probably won't mail it overseas anyway - mine woudn't when I had one expire - I had it sent to the people who get my mail for me - and the pin was mailed there too - they opened that up, gave me my pin (over the phone, goodness DON'T email that info!!!) and told me what it was.

all this will take some time - I'd ask for the advance first, seems like that's the least trouble for you.

ok, this time - good luck Wink

How long do folks intend to repeat this canard here? It's quite easy to determine what an embassy can and cannot do for its citizens overseas. If their involvement with the embassy so far has entailed your requesting them to do stuff for them that they cannot do, the fault is not theirs.

Can you ask your boss for an advance?

Do you have anything to use as collateral? If so get exchange it for cash with someone until you get an ARC.

I object to your ignorance and refusal to learn facts.
