I know the answer iwill be yes for most people, but do you do it in a furtive way.

And no, I'm not talking about taking Mrs Palmer and her five daughters out on a date, I'm taking about...

Wait let me set the scene.

Your down at the local supermarket perusing the fresh produce section. It's filled with unknown delicacies, fetid stenches of the seafood variety, (that you look sadly upon wishing they were fresh), men in aprons shouting at you gibberish, adjumas doling out freshly cooked samples of tobu, mollusks, pig snout, ah who knows what, when you spy something that you might actually want. Hmm only 1200 won, doesn't seem like much FOR 100GRAMS. So you grab half a dozen, of for example, some weird looking mushrooms and take it to the weighing woman. While patiently waiting to get her attention several burly, somewhat shrunken adjumas push in front of you to get their shaved goats bollocks weighed first. Slightly miffed at their obvious dispespect you hand over your bag, she weighs it and gives it back without even raising her face to glance at you. 9000 Won! You have got to be kidding. A couple of mushrooms for 9000 grand. Well F### me. You know at that instant you aren't going to buy them but you can't very well give them back, there and then, can't you. It feels like all eyes are upon you, the mushroom woman is staring at you with what seems like hostility, the weighing woman has raised her eyes and looking at you quizzically. You mutter a Kam Sa ham ne da and wander off seemingly interested in the selection of squid, while those mushrooms mock you with their price tag, taunting "ha we've sucked in another babo".

Now here's the question. Where the hell do you stash the mushies?
Do you leave them in the fresh produce section, hide them amongst the electronics, or stash them under some jackets in the clothing section?

Do you furtively do it, with a slip of the hand, or do you blatently throw them on the oranges while muttering at their exhorbitant price?

Personally I leave stuff scattered throughout the store like a modern day Hansal. Just follow the mushrooms to the exit, that's me.

Heavens, that's something I worry about too. I haven't been 'mushroomed' yet (knock wood), but I think I'd put them somewhere refrigerated...with discretion.

OK, I've done this. I hate shopping for groceries in this country because most people live in a family household and buy things in bulk. You should see the supermarket ajummas when I have them weigh up two potatoes, 6 cloves of garlic, etc etc.

I ditched mushrooms before. I put them under a pile of snack chips.

Broc-co-li: Just the sound of it makes me salivate, but why the hell are they so expensive here?!

I wanted to do the Hasal drop and run, but my girlfriend wanted to politely hand them back.

We're too different.

Put the mushrooms back where you got them. Say you're sorry in Korean, bowing with a smile, and leave.

just give em back to her.. she won't care, and even if she does, you shouldn't care that she cares... after all, it is your cash..

it is a bit silly to stash em somewhere.. i know it is easy to do and i am guilty of it at some stage.. just give em back and don't risk wasting their precious food.

at least now ya know how they afford to employ 5 people to sell shampoo.

all stashing it accomplishes is raising the prices for future customers.

Ha! So you've been a contestant on the "You've been Gonged!" show, too.

I always buy veggies and fruits on the street. You'll get killer deals, like broccoli for W1000 or less per head. A huge sack of onions/potatoes for W1500 or thereabouts. 6 aubergines for W1000. A sack of bell peppers for W2000. Etc, etc, etc. You don't even need to bargain, but they'll think you're a sucker if you don't.
