I'm in desperate need of some new workout music as what's on my ipod just doesn't cut it anymore. As it is, I'm stuck for ideas as to what to listen to. What I normally listen to to relax isn't very good to workout to.
So what do you listen to at the gym or whilst out running? |

I normally use something with a fast beat. I've always found trance to be a nice bit to workout to. It's not for everybody, but if you're interested you can check out Above & Beyond or A State of Trance. If you use an iPod you can download sets off the iTunes Store for free (legally). |

In my free time, I tend to listen to more indie folk or shoegazer sort of stuff. I tried in my workouts to add music specifically for the purpose of keeping up a good beat, but I find the music itself to be so unsatisfying. Now I just roll through my general playlist. I don't run to the super acoustic slow stuff, but it's not all !!! either.
My favorites are:
Ted Leo & the Pharmacists - Me & Mia (which is sort of a sick choice since it's about eating disorders!)
The Sounds- Hit Me
The Unicorns - I Was Born (a unicorn)
The Pipas - Run Run Run
The New Pornographers - The Laws Have Changed
Q & Not U - Fever Sleeves
Swan Lake - A Venue Called Rubella
What you'll find on this list is that it doesn't really fit into the dance/hip hop expectations of normal work out music, rather it's a good mix of punk and indie pop. I'd rather enjoy my run than suffer a Christina Aguilera dance remix *shudder*. |

I listen to whatever the employees are playing at the gym, which is a steady rotation of SG Wannabe - 라라라, Lollipop, songs that say 사란해요 a million times, Gee, Korean heavy metal or punk sometimes, etc.
I don't like to wear headphones at the gym 'cuz I feel like I'm purposely trying to block people out. And I don't concentrate on the music when I'm lifting weights anyways. All my concentration is going to the lifts and maintaning correct form. Music is just a distraction. Now, if I ran or did some cardio, that'd be a different story. I don't do cardio though because I'm on a weight gaining regimen. |

Techno, trance, whatever I have. I find stuff by Sasha is pretty good to keep the pace going.
I mostly jog so it's quite beautiful to be watching the scenery and listening...
Kind of "inspiring" type music |

I'm the opposite, I wear my Ipod specifically so people will leave me alone. One of my mates quit going to our gym because some of the other, older guys, would always crowd around his weight bench and say 'oh, hello' or 'oh, big weight' a few dozen times every time he'd come lift. I know they're just being nice or whatever, but I dont go to the gym to socialize, just show up, work out, and leave as quickly and efficiently as possible. |

I don't generally really care for 'trancy' stuff, although this is good, although the purists would probably call it progressive. Probably better for the headphones rather than the gym per se, although it does pick up in the second half.
You should torrent the Global Underground series if you like his stuff. There's some excellent Digweed mixes. I particulary like CD 2 of this one. My favourite though is this one by Lee Burridge, CD 1 especially.
I keep my eye on the discogs mixes forum as some good stuff comes up on there from time to time. This one (New York Maximum) was done last year by this German guy which I really like, although it's mostly Scandanavian style 'space-discoesque' if that's your thing.
I've just remembered this which is probably regarded as trance and which is pretty high tempo.
