I've been looking at a hostel in Sinchon. Can anybody tell me what it's like in this area? Is there decent nightlife and is it easy to find my way around Seoul quickly from here?

Also one last thing I wanted to ask was about the transport. What time do the buses and subway stop and is it easy to find a taxi? Are they expensive?

I'll probably end up at Itaewon at some point but just wanted to know if getting a taxi from that location late at night to Sinchon would be expensive.

Thanks.

Depending on what time you take the taxi from Itaewon to Shinchon (rates go up after midnight), it'll run you about 7,000-10,000 won. Traffic can get pretty bad leaving Itaewon and getting into the Shinchon/HongDae area.

Shinchon is one of the major university nightlife area's in Seoul. It is blocks and blocks of low-cost Korean eateries and bars. For most of these places, it's best to go with friends.

Not exactly sure, but I think the bus and subway lines do their last runs around 12:00-1:00 a.m. on weeknights, and a bit later on weekends.

Getting cabs anywhere in Seoul from around 11:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., especially on weekends, and especially to or from nightlife areas, isn't easy. There are litterally hundreds of people mulling about trying to score a taxi.

Good luck to you.

I took the taxi at night once, and what the driver did was pick up people along the way LOL. Each of us had to pay a little bit and he ended up with a little more.

Yup, that's called 'hapsung', and sometimes they avoid picking up foreigners because they're afraid they won't understand the system. Not done all too much these days, but that was the rule of thumb up until the mid 90s.
