Hey guys I need some help.

I just upgraded my internet connection here in Korea from a 3mbps (300k download speed maximum)

To a 100mb connnection (...don't even ask)

So like since I've had it, I've been worse off, seriously.

My surfing speeds are slow, download speeds REALLY vary. One day I can be downloading at 20kbps, others 500kbps, hell one time I even saw 1.5mbps.

Now I understand we run on cable here and I'm really not expecting to be downloading at a 10mbps all the time but this really isn't what I expected.

Any advice? Anyone have a 100mb connection that could give a bit of help?

I'm running through a D-Link router (I've tried without the router too), I've tried both Wired and Wireless and same result.

Some ISP's block Torrent/P2P programs.

My new ISP, LGpowercomm, seem to be blocking my uTorrent. When I use uTorrent download speeds are pretty poor and the internet page loading times slow to a crawl.

My last ISP, Hanaro, was fantastic.....absolutely blinding fast uTorrent speeds and no problems surfing while downloading.

The solution is to forward a specific port in the router for uTorrent. But, apparently, all three LGpowercomm engineers who came to my house either didn't know how to forward a port or didn't want to.......I haven't given up......I'll just learn how to do it myself......

Encryption seems to be a popular method of bypassing ISP control. I think Utorrent has the ability to do this.

what sort of download speeds would you get with a 100mb/s connection? I was trying to work out what internet package I have (it was set up before I arrived). I get speeds of up to 800kB/s.

I had the 100mbps KT megapss when I lived in an officetel. When downloading from a Korean source, I was downoading at around 7-8MB/s.

A single torrent wouldn't get that high, but I found that if I were downloading concurrent torrents (around 6- the total speed would get near 6-7MB/s.

I set the global number of connections to 2000 and connections per torrent at 200, had set 10 torrents uploading/downloading (with 8 active downloads) and everything went pretty fast.

I do recommend doubling the write/read buffers. That should bump up the speeds because your hard drives won't be struggling so hard to write the data.

I moved and now I can only get the Megapass Lite. Maxes out at about 1.2 MB/s. I had to set the max number of torrents to 4. Seems like snail speed compared to the 100mbps.

Hmm...it's strange how everyone assumed I'm ONLY using torrents.

I'm not basing my results on torrents alone.
It was based on surfing speed (tried in 2 browsers)
Direct downloads from what i've previously experienced, fast servers
And yes, well seeded torrents.

According to speed tests (I can't remember the one I use but they have a test server in Seoul) I have a 52mb connection.

Sounds like I'm the only one ...

these 100mb connections to officetels run on LAN's. that means you're sharing that connection with who knows how many other people in your building. when a lot of people are using the connection, its gonna be slow.

i just had one installed in my new place over the weekend.
during peak time, speedtest.net shows only a 60-70 megabit connection.
during off peak hours, it shows 90-95 megabit.

Dude that's pretty shitty. Isn't there any company which offers DSL?

DSL will not be better. In fact it is much slower. Your option if you're sharing with the entire building is to get your own connection. 100mb is about 35k a month, a bargain really.

35k? That's what I'm paying, so I' not sharing I'd imagine, but still I've noticed cables speed can vary depending on the time of day.

It's word because in my school, the internet speed is hella fast! I'll take my laptop into work today and just make sure it's not a problem with the laptop itself.
