Hello,
Does anyone have an LG Cell phone here in Korea? I just got a phone through the help of my school and was wondering how much it is to call home to America. I'm sure it's expensive, but I was just curious how much exactly. If you have a different cell, how expensive is it for you?

Buy an international calling card at your local convenience store 7/11 family mart. ect... for 10,000 won it will make calling much cheaper and longer.

I made a few international calls the first month that I was here - nothing serious, just ten minutes here and there, and my bill was only about $15 over my normal plan's cost.

My friend who called to Australia every day for a month for an hour+ a day got a bill for about $400 dollars.

International calling cards with dial-through numbers are your most economical choice, but making a few short calls directly with 001 isn't going to kill your funds.

Yes, but what if you are not at your computer?

Given the price difference is it really worth it to make a call home just that minute outside of emergencies then to wait until you get home?
You can get unlimited calling to north america for like $6/month on skype.
If you have a PSP you can get a microphone and skype for the PSP and use it from coffee shops if you really need to call america when you're not home.

I actually have a skype phone which is independent of the PC, works like a regular handset. Linksys has redesigned their site..and they seem to be missing some categories..all their voip stuff seems to be missing.
The price on this is garbage: http://www.amazon.com/Linksys-CIT400-Dual-Mode-Telephony-Integrated/dp/B000JI75GU
I got 2 brand new on ebay last year for $100 each. Gave one to my parents.
Completely free calling in between and if I want to call any of my other friends and family I'm covered under the $6/month.

I say buy one of these. They work almost anywhere in Korea or asia. I do buy these in bulk and sell them in Korea.

You can call regular phones with skype...you just need to pay...besides, unless your friends are in Aussie land, time zone differences mean you'll likely be calling them from home late at night anyway...

It's 1400 won per MINIUTE to Canada...
I made the mistake of calling home on my cell one month thinking it was cheap (because a few calls I had made the month before didn't seem to make my bill jump all that much)...

120k one month and 180k the second month (my phone billing is weird... it splits the month) later and I know never to call home on my cell again... LOL

That's actually a pretty good idea given the proliferation of wireless in Korea. Though I'd rather have a conversation with my parents at home then in a noisy coffee shop or a street corner. I guess if you knew some quiet places you could hang out with wireless it'd be okay.
