Check out this story from the Joongang Ilbo:

High demand and expectations, though, lead to bigger fees. High-end English kindergartens including Art-One cost around 24 million won ($18,000) a month, equivalent to the starting salary of a university graduate.

I can only imagine how much money the owner must be swimming in

It's a typo,

They must have aded an extra zero.

Mainly because they said "equivalent to the starting salary of a university graduate."

What kind of uni graduate makes $18,000 a month?

They make $1,800.

Wow what a huge mistake... I should have graduated in Korea. lol

I don't believe it either, but starting salary for a uni grad, per year, would be around that much.

They could have meant 18,000 per year since it said starting salary and not monthly.

I know the won is low but 24 million won isn't $1800.

They probably meant the $18000 was the starting YEARLY salary of a university graduate

Actually, I first thought the typo was month meant to be year,

When I read $18,000 for a uni grad I thought that was WAY TOO LOW. In the states we typically get anywhere from 28,000-35,000 as a starting salary.

Now that I think about it, the article is talking about Korean uni salary and using $18,000 DOLLARS is comparison by exchange rate...

So yes, probably meant year.

Has to be 2.4 million which is about $1800. That's still outragiously expensive, but must be the executive kindergarten.

This is obviously an accelerated program so that the toddler will totally ace the first grade.

I mean, honestly, how much knowledge can one expect a kindergartner to pick up any way? Sometimes, I think they go way too far in their attempt to compete with their peers. But it's their country and their money--

Of course they mean a uni grad's annual salary.

Further, they probably made a typo: tuition at Art-One is likely $18,000 a year, not per month. Then the next sentence about $6,000/year kindies still being expensive for regular household makes more sense... $6,000 a month would just be ludicrous.

Ordinary English kindergartens charge less than half this sum, which is still expensive for regular households.

One of my co-teachers pays 1.2 million/month for her daughters kindy in song-do new city. ludicrous.

But, the chicks who drop the kid off in the evening are very hot and well-mannered....
