So I've noticed in some of the subway stations there is a disproportionate amount of squat toilets. Some are good, with a 50/50 split and others (like seoulleung) have like a 6:1 split in favor of squat toilets. At one point or another in our lives we've all felt the need to go in a hurry. I've noticed though that most western people can't squat like a Korean or other asians can. We tend to squat with our heels off the ground which completely changes our entire body position. So I was curious how many people have taken that adventure.

I'm going to assume if you use them outside of emergencies you have the proper form.

Nonsense about not squatting properly. I use the one at my school twice a day and have never had problems. They're actually better because of the angle of your guts and poop chute line up so that you don't need to push. Also, 99% of it comes out so you don't get that "lingering" feeling.

The only concern is making sure you have enough toilet paper when you go in.

Just like "most Western people can't use chopsticks" and "most Western people can't eat spicy food."

I actually prefer squat toilets, and I also squat with my heels on the ground. I feel like they are less dirty. With a western bathroom, you may have to wipe piss off of the seat, make a nest, etc. I just walk in, hike up my pants, and let 'er rip. And, I always flush the TP.

As someone said, squat toilets are good for your bowels and actually help hemorrhoids.

If you can squat properly good on you. But most of the people I know don't/can't squat heels to butt as its not a position normally practiced beyond young childhood. How many times do you see teenagers or adults just hanging out or working in that position in the western world?

and I should note that something happened to the poll. I had a 4th option of "I use them normally" but for some reason it didn't get posted. Maybe a mod could fix that.

you need a couple more options: "i prefer them" and "i don't care." personally, i'm with the latter, however i'd rather take a squat toilet over a semi-nasty to nasty western one anyday.

My school has a bidet for teachers. After doing my business I get the refreshing sensation of a jet of water up my butt.

How sanitary do you think that is?

I used to use them, no problem. Before I got pregnant. I'm small and short, so squatting was easy and quick...but I only used them to pee...lots of women (I think) just don't experience our bowels urgin' while we are in public...but that's another thread

Anyway, you know how a woman's sense of smell amplifies when she's knocked up? Well, those squatter bogs STINK. I can't use them, not because I'm bigger but because the nose is that much closer to the used tissue paper can and also the tin can of wet cigarettes.

OT I'm wondering, do men smoke in the public restroom stalls as much as women do around here?
