Our grandparents were up before dawn taking care of live stock so they could be out in the fields at day break doing manual labor though. Sometimes even BEFORE they left for day jobs requiring more physical labor. The lifestyle required the extra calories. |
I fundamentally believe science will have cured every conceivable disease before I have to worry about it, I'm only 23 after all.
You don't think that physical back breaking labor effects your life expectancy? Have you ever worked on a farm? It ain't all roses and cow ddong. |

I agree with the fried bread contingent. If it's good bread, a nice sourdough rye maybe, there's no better toast to be had than bacon-fried.
I'd also like a nice side of fried mushrooms please, and OJ, and coffee with cream. |

Ha, this is what I do. Bacon fat and bread is delicious. I'm not really afraid of heart disease, our Grandparents cooked with lard for gosh sakes and we have higher life expectancy than ever.
Boiled, diced potatoes fried in bacon fat is good, too.
What about mushrooms? |
Higher life expectancy has nothing to do with less heart disease and everything to do with improved sanitation, basic access to healthcare, etc. Also, life expectancy doesnt translate to quality of life. Being 60 and suffering from disease associated with advanced age in our society (heart disease, diabetes, etc) probably wont be a fun thing. |
I agree with you. I was more saying I don't really believe heart disease is caused by bacon. Eating bacon also leads to me having a higher quality of life so I would rather be 65 and be able to eat bacon, than be 70 and not be able.
I was more bah-humbugging the "you gotta eat healthy" folks than making any comments about life expectancies or quality of life. BTW I only have a fatty bacon meal once a month these days. |
And exactly how does eating bacon give you a higher quality of life? The diseases we are talking about, heart disease, cancers, diabetes are generally associated with aging, so perhaps now you can make a statement like this. Then again, I don't believe you have a higher quality of life than someone your age who is eating a healthier diet and has a healthier lifestyle. Heart disease isn't caused by bacon? That's funny, it seems you don't believe what modern nutritional science has to say on the issue of high saturated fat, high sodium intake and its relationship with heart disease. Funny from a guy who think the same science will have cured all known diseases by the time he is 60. Seems t me you should rethink your expectations of a science that is so off-base. Or perhaps it is you who is off-base. |

Have you ever eaten bacon? It's delicious! I feel my lifestyle would be curtailed if I couldn't eat it.
As for my claim about bacon not causing heart disease, I'm being willfully ignorant on that point. I'm a huge believer in mind over matter so my reasoning is that if I believe it won't hurt me, maybe it won't. Also, science is wrong all the time. For decades, eggs were believed be bad for you, which later turned out to be wrong.
Like I say, science will defeat aging in the near future with or without bacon so eat up! |

My mum's a pom, so as kids we were never allowed to go fishing without a 'decent' fried English breakfast:
2 fried eggs (sunny side up)
2 sausages
heaps of salty-bacon rashers
black pudding
2 large tomatoes (halved)
baked beans (I now spice mine up with hot Thai chilli powder)
2 slices of toast ..
( and )
2-3 slices of toast - heaped with margarine and marmalade.
All washed down with 2 cups of strong milky tea.
Man, I miss those breakfasts. We ate before sun-up - and didn't eat again until after sundown (a habit that I still practice (well ...... mostly)). |

I am sure the OP said no comments from the heart conscious...so WTF are those clowns talking about?????
I love eggs and bacon. Toast...preferably rye bread...and beans!!!! Gotta have beans. Also a few slices of fresh tomato...preferably not too ripe so it's still kinda crunchy.

| It's the salt and the grease along with the good taste. That crap is addictive, like sugar (or caffeine, nicotine, etc.) perhaps. No wonder McD's and others are making a killing. |

| If you're doing toast and eggs, why not eggs in the middle? I have no idea what the actual name of this "recipe" is, but it entails cutting a circle out of the middle of a piece of bread, frying an egg, and throwing the bread on top with the yolk sticking out of the hole. It makes for some delicious egg toast. |
