Hi guys, I'm still in Canada but finally, after a month and a half of debating, got my act together recently and started putting the wheels in motion to go to Korea. I was certain that I wanted to go through a good recruiting company based here in Canada but yesterday I applied to a job in Busan that I found on this website because it looked pretty good, I just wanted to find out if anyone knows this school/can find a website on it to make sure it's all legit and whatnot.
It's called the Herald Media Busan Global Village and they call it a semi-private school. It seems to have the things in the contract that are standard of Hagwons, although I haven't got the contract quite yet, and Herald Media seems like a reputable place. Apparently they publish the Korea Herald, and apparently it's the number 1 English newspaper in Korea?? Also, apparently it's an English immersion village?
Anyone that has been to Busan/lives in Busan/knows anything about this school/village/company that can help me figure out if this is legit or not will help me out A LOT. It looks good, I guess I'm just scared that I can't seem to find a website about it.
Thanks in advance.

There's a lot of info on Google.
You can even see the location on Google Earth (1.95KB download), just search with the address:
389-25, Bujeon-dong, Busanjin-gu, Busan City, South Korea
It's just off the Seomyeon rotary, right in the heart of the city. |

In Korea, "..... Village" traditionally referred to a summer camp style program and these have long had a bad reputation due to visa violations and pay issues.
But about 3 years ago many schools started adding the word "Village" to the end of their title, so now it could mean virtually anything: ranging from an actual camp, to a hagwon, to an english program based in a public school classroom after regular school hours.
The same with the "Herald", a few years ago this newspaper group got into the ESL business. That should not imply that they are reputable - it is just marketing. Do a search for Herald, it will turn up some info.
A lot to be very cautious about.
Don't accept it unless you can make definitive judgement on the success of past teacher experiences there. |
