For the uninformed or people with less time on their hands than me, there's http://www.nicedeli.com . Their meat is not cheap, but not expensive (read: not COSTCO expensive, but not Camp Henry cheap), and they have a decent variety. Free shipping on orders over 100k, work out discounts on REALLY large orders with the Mick who owns the joint. And yes, deli meat freezes.

Happy now?

Enrico, if you delete this one too, can you please send me a PM as to why?

Cheers,

Tark.

I just posted a thread about how this website has reduced their minimum online order to 50,000 won, and my thread was deleted within 20 minutes. (can some mod please explain why?)

I guess someone at Dave's doesn't want us to know about how we can buy deli meats.

I can guess this thread will be gone within an hour.

The initial threads were removed because they constituted commercial advertising, which has never been permitted in the forums. Please refer to the forum guidelines.

Users are welcome to discuss and recommend businesses with which they've had experience, but business owners cannot simply create accounts and post free ads. Dave's is a business too, and commercial advertising must be bought and paid for.

Now, if you don't want further threads removed, quit carping about the previously removed threadsthey were in violation of forum guidelines. Period. End of discussion.

I thought so. I kept mine strictly informational for that reason. Makes perfect sense. And thanks for not deleting it.

I just placed an order with this website, which will only be completed when their currently "out of stock" pastrami is available again (hopefully wont have to wait too long).

I ordered roast beef, turkey, pastrami and salami. When the order arrives and I can sample the quality, I'll be sure to post about it here.

It's good that another poster made this thread instead of the company involved so at least the availability of these delicious things can be made aware to the expat community without deletion.

I understand the moderator's point that advertising should be paid for, but I feel that the original 'ad' was more of a Public Service Announcement announcing availability nationwide of a much requested product rather than a mere ad per se.

It's posts announcing deli meat nationwide availability which change our lives in Korea for the better, not posts about Korean boys wearing too much makeup or Manitoban girls being too fat or English teachers mailing pot to themselves but labelling the envelope "Smith" instead of "Smithson" and some such nonesense.

I'd like to see more posts about businesses catering to the expat community; whether they're made by the owners of the business or customers. If the product/company/shop/bar etc. is awful posters will be sure to chime in to tell the rest of the expat community such. The only exception would be companies looking for employees since there is a job page which they can pay to advertise on. Recruiters and hagwan owners should pay for ads on the Korean job page to hire their indentured servants. Deli shop owners and purveyors of Vegemite, Segways, Hula Hoops, Poptarts and other hard to find items should be allowed to announce their micro-businesses on the general discussion forum

You make a good point. I'm going to throw a copy of this into the moderators' forum and see what comes of it.

Hyeon Een, as I said before, you made some valid points. I raised this question among the other moderators, and your point was acknowledged.

Nevertheless, there is a STRONG consensus among the mods (which I share) to maintain the current policy, i.e., no commercial advertising of any kind. There are several reasons for this:
  • Dave's ESL Cafe is a for-profit enterprise. The forums are a public service, but they exist in large part to drive traffic to Dave's advertisers. It would simply be bad business for Dave to allow businesses to advertise here for free, when he derives no benefit from this. Businesses are free to purchase advertising from Dave.
  • If we were to reverse our policy and allow advertising, it would open the door to a host of problems.
    • If we simply allowed all non-job advertising, the boards would quickly become overwhelmed with spam. We get a lot of report post complaints about commercial ads, so I suspect a lot of users would oppose allowing this.
    • If we tried to limit the scope of permissible ads to those deemed to be "in the public interest," the mod teama small group of volunteerswould quickly be swamped with trying to judge which ads are okay and which are not. We would likewise be overwhelmed with ad posters complaining about the removal of their ads: "You allowed this ad but not mine, it's not fair!"
Dave's users have always been free to recommend businesses. That hasn't changed.

Business owners have other options for free advertising; beyond that, a smart business owner budgets for marketing expenses and so shouldn't mind paying a reasonable fee to another business owner to promote his product or service.

Bottom line: the drawbacks of allowing businesses to advertise for free on the forums far outweigh the advantages. Therefore, while we appreciate the input, we have no plans to change the longstanding policy on these forums: NO COMMERCIAL ADVERTISING.

Well, a discussion forum is not the place to be dropping ads anyhow. A lot of people here don't know this, but there is a perfectly good wiki on Galbijim (I've mentioned that place here before). If you're looking for bulk information, it's a great place to look up "hay, do you know any foreigner bars in West Dookie? It's near North Toilet on the KTX line."

The problem is, nobody updates it with anything current, at least they haven't in quite some time. If the 'cafe had a wiki, people could just post their crap there, like start an article like http://wiki.eslcafe.com/food with links to whatever. But that ain't gonna happen. Galbijim is a great resource that could be updated, but that ain't gonna happen.

Best you can do is post here and hope for the best. Me, I'd like some Gabagul, but they ain't got cheese (cause there just isn't a good supplier here for it), but I digress.

The initial post would be tossed from any discussion forum, sponsored or not. I'm not saying he's not a good guy, but still.

Thanks for the re-post Straphanger~

Thanks for your order Coralreefer and for mentioning that we lowered our minimum order. We are overwhelmed by the response we've gotten so far and are doing are best to keep orders on schedule and quality high.

Hyeon Een thanks for taking up the cause for businesses catering to expats, much appreciated. I also understand the Mods points as well. I have no idea what the Ad rates are nor have I seen any besides the TEFL one. . .

Nice Deli

Nice Deli

I would gladly place an order if you had a nice stock of cheeses to go with those delicious meats

Yes, the site is Now fully functional in Internet Explorer thanks to our Web Guy.

We will work on getting cheese, so far finding high quality cheeses at reasonable prices has been elusive. For the time being we are focusing on our meats and trying to deal with the little hiccups and learning curves that go with running a new business.

Initially we had designed our Deli to service the Busan Expat community. However, after the enormous response we received from folks nationwide, we adjusted our model so that struggling sandwich makers everywhere might be appeased. We hope our customers can be patient and understanding during our first month of operations. Mistakes can and do happen but we will do our best to rectify any errors on our part to keep our customers happy.

I received my order today. Everything looks good as promised (especially the pastrami). Though I have not sampled everything yet, I did try the roast beef and turkey and both are as expected...delicious!!

Shipping costs added about 5,500 won to the total. I ordered 2 roast beef, 2 turkey, 1 pastrami, and 1 sliced salami. Total was 56,900 plus shipping. As a bonus for getting in early, I was sent a free pack of the Lyoner.

I'm quite happy with the service and look forward to making my favorite sandwich this weekend Smile
