Back in October, Colin Powell endorsed Obama for President, and his name was floated as a possible Cabinet appointment. At the time, I wrote:

Bingo. The guy stinks to high heaven...and Obama is a smart guy and he knows it.
He'll make nice noises at/about Powell to help his campaign, but I'll bet anybody here $20 bucks Obama doesn't let him anywhere near a position where he'd have real power or the ability to damage anything. Obama is too smart for that. |

So, where is he nowadays? Did it come as any great surprise to anyone that Obama decided to keep him out of his Administration? |

My understanding was that Powell had no interest in any government position. |

Then why did he turn his back on his own party and endorse Obama? C'mon. |

He was lied to, then treated like dirt after that experience can you blame him for not wanting to return to government. His wife Alma never wanted him to be in the cabinet the first time. |

Well, I guess it depends on one's viewpoint, but I do think that when you lie down with pigs, you're bound to get dirty.
My comment is more directed at the way fads come and go in politics and current affairs. A few months ago a lot of people were saying things like Powell will be a cabinet appointee and Palin will be the next leader of the Republican party. Nobody took me up on my bet, which was probably a good thing. |

I bet we know of at least three Earth-sized planets orbiting red dwarf stars in their habitable zones by this time next year. |

Oh c'mon we can do better than that!
I'll bet you we know of three earth-sized planets that appear to have oceans, from one of which atmospheric gases that can't be explained by abiogenic processes are detected, by this time next year. |

He was one of the senior Bush officials that was briefed about the torture being used. I think Obama has enough problems. |
