|
|
As I search for materials I constantly find esl pay sites. I can pay an annual fee and then get access to their materials.
Does anyone use any of these sites? Can anyone share reviews of these sites?
I am not opposed to paying, but I don't want to buy subscriptions at 5 or 10 of them to find the one I like.
Thanks..... |

Why pay for it?????Plenty of free stuff on Bogglesworld, Daves, eflclassroom etc.
Use these free sites until you get the hang of making your own material. |

Hey OP,
There are a lot of places where you can get stuff for free. A poster here has a wonderful site with a lot of great stuff:
http://eflclassroom.ning.com and http://eflclassroom.com .
I have a site that has quite a few worksheets/handouts for various levels:
www.ralphsesljunction.com
A lot of other posters do as well. Just take a few minutes and search through dave's and you'll be amazed at the stuff you can find here. |

Please everyone.... I appreciate the responses but I have done this. I have a large list of the "free sites". My question is if anyone knows the pay sites.
That is my question, please don't assume otherwise. |

Yes I'd like others to coin in on this
I've used boggles and others for very low level students. Suffice it to say they are wonderful but do little to help my students.
I wouldn't mind paying 100,000 won for a site that could provide generous amount of resources, worksheets for all levels, and at least some organized or lessons plans that address ESL learners.
Quite frankly Boggles is great but if you're looking things beyond crosswords there really isn't much help. Also, a lot of them are just exercises, no descriptions or "informative" worksheets.
I've had to make my own worksheets and it's very time consuming and inefficent. I spend at least 2-3 days on 1 worksheet for 1 grade. I'm sure there's got to be 1 good teacher that's done all this and can share it for a price I'm willing to pay. |

No don't pay. Make your own and tailor them to your lesson plan. Not only are you rude to people trying to help you, you are also lazy and/or an idiot. |

He's not being rude....

Seems pretty polite to me.... And he's probably just sick of making lessons and worksheets ALL THE TIME. It's highly inefficent considering the many level of students I have and that I have to do it all the time when we're all very well aware some other teacher has probably made them all.
I teach elementary, middle school, high school (had taught), college, post college, and adult.
I need a site! |

If anyone is teaching at either an acadmic HS or a high level MS and has a copy of this (available from Kyobo), then I have 12 of the 16 units on PPT available for a small fee. It's taken me about 3-weeks to work through each unit, so there's a good 2 or 3 semesters worth of PPT lessons. All you'd only have to is photocopy the pages from the book for each lesson and tweak the slides as required. |

From a professional point of view I do agree that I would love access to a website that offers more professional assistance in creating and developing lesson plans.
It is nice to see and use all the free stuff, but sometimes you just need something a little bit more professional and though out.
My biggest issue is that you have no way of finding out the average quality of their work, before you buy.
I am certainly open to comments from people who have tried and used it. |

You can say please and thank you all day but it doesn't mean squat if you're not sincere. Tone is everything, and those phrases I associate with someone being rude.
Myself I do not like worksheets, I hate seeing a forest being chopped down each week for the 1500 worksheets needed for the whole school. Yet if you don't give out a worksheet the teachers consider the class incomplete. |

You have made your comments. "Thank you". I "appreciate" your ability to be a moral compass on this site.
Now to be more direct, could you go find a thread that you can add to instead of moralizing you frakin idiot (more direct approach).

Sigh..... I'm going to do something really odd and answer your question directly without any judgement, unwanted advice, or caustic remarks..
I use the plethora of free sites available, but have also paid for the use of a couple sites.. It is true that unfortunately, you don't REALLY know what you're paying for until you have total access to what's available on these sites. So, your question is a valid one. Anyway, I use "Genki English" (genkienglish.com), which is great for elementary kids, but it's a bit spendy. Would be great to go in on the site with a couple other teachers. I was feeling the need for some super extra fun material during the winter doldrums (plus I'm new at elementary teaching.. most of my experience has been teaching academic English to adults!), so I broke down and paid for it last year.. Got a series of 8 CDs with the website access as well. However, the material that accompanies the CDs is a bit repetitious meaning that each focus has the same style games, handouts, etc... Some of the songs are rather catchy and cute.. others not so great.. I also paid for this site (www.teachingenglishgames.com), and it's well worth the $25!! I've found the activities and games to be varied, entertaining, and useful.. Many of them require NO HANDOUTS as well.. Also, ESLprintables.com has tons and tons of material and you don't have to pay for them.. just submit your own handouts, ideas, and you are rewarded with access to the materials submitted by other teachers as it's a sharing site..
Those are what I've actually paid for so far... There are others I'd like to use as well, but I have to draw the line somewhere.. I also create MANY of my own materials and get ideas for these materials from the many sites available free and otherwise... Sure makes teaching a lot easier than it was 20 years ago when all we had was books... Good luck and I hope this helped some..

Get yourself some books too. The problem with being dependent on websites for activities and ideas etc is the amount of time you have to spend sorting out all the good stuff from the bad. When I arrived out here, all my books that I shipped from back home didn't arrive until about 3-months after I did, so I had to rely on websites and it used to drive me nuts spending half the day clicking through all sorts of rubbish that was either in appropriate or required elaborate preperation etc.
Personally, I think all teachers should have a a few, if not an arsenal of books at, hand either to suppliment your online searches etc or visa versa. |
