Applying for a teaching job in Korea requires a lot of our personal information, however I have not visited any websites that secure the information that we are supposed to send. For example, the EPIK website has an unsecured online application (http://www.epik.go.kr/member/application.asp). There are many recruiting websites that have unsecured online applications like this. After bringing this to a recruiter's attention, I get the usual response to email the information instead... email is NOT secure!
I have emailed EPIK about this, but I have to wonder what happens once these agencies, the Korean consulate and school(s) have this information. Do they pass it around amongst themselves via unsecured means such as email?
Some of this information is extremely sensitive such as birth date, birth place, and passport number. In a couple of cases the recruiter recruiter even asked for color photocopies of my passport via email! This is the sort of information that banks use to verify that you are you.
It seems that there is absolutely no responsibility taken for securing personal information by these agencies; they don't even try. Has anyone heard of any fake recruiting sites gathering information for use or sale?
More importantly, can anyone recommend agencies that take this issue seriously enough to at least use HTTPS?
Thanks. |

One thing I don't like are agencies who require you to send your original diploma/degree (like CDI), and quite emphatically state 'No Copies'. |

Immigration requires the original diploma in order to process an E2 visa. It is not the school's policy, but the government's.
Send your stuff my FedEx or UPS to have better odds of a safe delivery. I also got extra diplomas and transcripts from my University before coming over. |

One of the worst offenders is Park English.
They send spam e-mails to people (schools and regular people like me) including teachers photos and resume information. I have an entire e-mail I'd like to show everyone (full of about 45 teachers) but that would just perpetuate the problem. |

Immigration processed Wario's documents for his visa issuance number with an apostilled copy of his diploma. He took the original with him to the consulate for his actual visa. He took the original to Korea for immigration to see it again when they gave him his ARC. |

Hate to say it but get used to it. Personal information is not kept secret here |
