Hey, since I'm moving to Incheon in about a month I'm starting to consider the positive sides of living in a polluted metropolis. Which is: it's an international city there should be some pretty F----n cool things to do and places to visit. Is there an awesome record store to check out somewhere? How about a kick a$$ comic shop? What about English Stand-up? Or maybe a really awesome park? Is there a place to watch sumo-wrestling? (Maybe imprted from Japan?) I want to know about the out-of-the-way cool places to visit and see in Seoul. If you know somewhere don't just me know, but other people as well. It may be polluted but that doesn't mean it can't be cool. |

Dude, think cool tea houses, cool drinking places off the beaten path, places with live music (any types of music), the local restaurant that does kimchi chiagae just right, good places to watch the crowds, and your favorite street stall food cart.... Cool is going to be subtle here.... |

If you hang around Dave's long enough, you'll run into some "real" comedians (or at least those that think they are.)
But seriously,
If you're a rookie to the country, I would suggest getting a Lonely Planet or Rough Guide to Korea (not just Seoul..) there are some pretty nifty cool places listed. Obviously, recommendations from people like us are useful too, but the Rough Guide has some pretty cool stuff..
If anything, those guides are a good start for your own explorations. Most of the "cool" places I've found have been discovered just by me stumbling across them. That's the fun of this country.. you'll inevitably discover some pretty neat and wacky stuff just randomly. (i.e. the Toilet Museum in Ilsan.) |

Not a newbie been here since 2007; just in the south end of the country; so Busan is the biggest playground in my area. I just considered that maybe Seoul, being the Korean version of say New York or Paris (it's taking it a bit far, I know) would have some awesome shite to see and do. I'm really searching for a good reason to leave my clear blue skies of my peaceful southern town for a city of lights; those lights better amount to something really cool after the end of my year. |

I'll answer the first two:
-record stores, no, all the good ones were removed by the government
-comic book stores, there's one near Sangdo Station that I hear good things about, but that's about it unless you want black and white cheap Korean-language books. |
