Hi, wondering if anyone out there can ID a decent place at Yongsan for notebooks and its lil bro, the netbook.
I had gotten a Dell XPS in the US with the intention of it actually lasting for a time, but the damn thing kept dieing on me- and dont even get me started on having it serviced in Korea.... aside from them installing the wrong OS on it, they also told me the problem, and then refused to make the actual repair.... I'm giving up on Dell.
But enough of my rant... that'll be another day... , all I need is basic internet access, some skype use, and other nonessential comp. stuff... so something pretty basic is all I want. any good places to find such things? |

| Not what you asked, I know, but I was able to get a nice deal on a netbook from gmarket, paid via atm transfer. I got a EEE 901 (ASUS) with 12gig SDD harddrives for about 540,000. Not a lot of storage space, but it has a SDHC slot that'll allow for another 32gigs+ when my wallet can bare it. |

No, that's pretty much it at the end of the day!
I figure a really nice machins isnt worth it if you cant even get decent rapairs done.... maybe an Apple when i go back home, and given the numbers of HP machines here, that might be worth looking at next trip home... but for now a netbook seems to be enough.
and with external drives, I figure you can have pretty much whatever else you want. something tells me netbooks will become the "throwaway devices" Bic razors dream of becoming. |

I'd write an email to Dell US. Then write another to a consumer board. Dell Korea should honor the warantees, shouldn't they.
On a more helpful note: If you look around for KT wibro you can often get a heavy discount on the machine if you sign up for a 2 year Wibro contract. Being a foreigner shouldn't be an issue, I signed mine up without the wife's help.
For example, in the LG twins building basement yesterday they were promoting the LG Xnote mini (800k RRP, at least 650k in shops) for 390,000won if you sign up for a 2 year Internet contract at a little less than 20,000 a month. You could sign up right then and there. That may have been for LG employees only but if you look around...
Here's the regular deals on the site.

Netbooks are wildly overpriced in Yongsan. Unless you really, really need the portability or battery life, you're probably better off getting a budget 15 inch notebook (which can be had for roughly the same price as the newer netbooks.)
I'm in the netbook market myself, and decided that I'll either wait til my trip home this summer, or have one shipped to my parents and have them repackage it and mail it to me. |

I got an HP 1010NR netbook.
Pretty nice, considering it was only $225. |
