I use many of those apps on my Hackintosh installation. App Zapper is good uninstall tool as well but it's not free.
VLC isn't bad but I'm yet to find a Mac video player as good as KM Player on 'Winblows'.
At the moment, I load Windows XP via Parallels so I can use KMP. Does Q Emulator need a Windows OS to be installed, or does it run more like Crossover? |

AppZapper and AppCleaner use the same programming, and are almost identical in design, except for the AppZapper *ZAP*.
The thing that is BETTER about AppCleaner, is that it will show you the path to delete unwanted Dashboard widgets, as well as any video or audio plug-ins .
As far as I know, AppZapper can't do that and it is a paid app.
Regarding Q Emulator, you need to install Winblows.
Between Quicktime (I found a torrent to make it "PRO"), and VNC, there isn't a format I have that I can't play.
Crossover, free if you use torrents is great for running without the OS. I use that mostly, as I assume you do. |

What will your computer primarily be used for?
Day to day use? Audio production?
If you're just using it for regular work/home tasks, then there's nothing else you will need except an external drive for backups, a carrying case, and maybe some external speakers.
I bought a mid model BookPro 15" in January and I'm very happy with it. Don't bother with the MacBooks. The screen is too small.
I'd also recommend AppleCare to extend the warrantee to 3 years. |

iWork with Pages, Numbers and Keynote is MUCH better.
Pages is Compatible with Word.
Failing that, there is always Neo Office.

I need a new laptop. I'll be using it at the office most of the time, but I'll be carrying it on the road with me every day. |

Just get a nice protective case and AppleCare. And never pick the laptop up by the screen. It's heavy and will bend the aluminum.
I was dumb enough to think it would be ok. Thankfully Apple just gave me a new computer on the spot!! |

If you want to use an external monitor, you'll need a cable. Otherwise, you're good to go. I can't think of anything else you'd need. |

But I thought that one of the advantages of Mac is that they came with all the software you could need?
AppCleaner??? I thought all you had to do was drag the icon to the trashcan and it was gone? You mean that's not true?
MacScan for malware? I thought Macs were impervious to evil stuff b/c they've got such great software in the OS????

LOL!
I stand by my claim. Macs come with everything you NEED, not everything you might WANT.
You can just throw apps in the trash can, and generally thats fine. AppCleaner will delete the leftover preference files, but having them will not cause any harm.
MacScan is designed to catch Malware that can affect ANY OS, especially if you cross-platform to Windows.. Viruses are another story. There are no Mac viruses in the wild right now. |
