Republicans angry that Steele wont call Obama a socialist.

"State Republican party leaders are incensed that RNC chairman Michael Steele isn't labeling President Obama a "socialist." "We don't see this president so much as a socialist as we see him as a collectivist," Steele said earlier this week. At least 16 state leaders are now backing a resolution that would pressure Steele to adopt their partisan rhetoric by calling on the Democratic party to rename itself the "Democrat Socialist Party":

RESOLVED, that we the members of the Republican National Committee call on the Democratic Party to be truthful and honest with the American people by acknowledging that they have evolved from a party of tax and spend to a party of tax and nationalize and, therefore, should agree to rename themselves the Democrat Socialist Party.

The Washington Times writes, "It is the first time in memory that a sitting national leader of the Republican Party has faced a public challenge over his ideological leadership by conservative members of his own national committee." Both Oliver Willis and Steve Benen see the resolution as "evidence of broader trouble for Steele."

Very Happy

The Dems should call their bluff and do it, but only if the GOP renames itself the Secessionist Party of America. 'Socialism' is not a bad word to the majority; secession is.

Nah, the GOP should change their name to the Moran (sic) party. The Klan of American is already taken.

Would someone like to explain how Obama's policies are NOT socialist?

They can't because it IS SOCIALIST!

Folks here may be silly, but they aren't that thin-skinned. Go ahead and call a spade a spade. FASCIST.

So the Republican Party (or various subfactions thereof), since losing power at a federal level, has:

1) Put a black man into power over their party to try to appeal to minorities after having tried to do the same with a totally unqualified train wreck of a female vice presidental candidate.
2) Tried to scare Americans by asserting America is unsafe under Democrat rule due, at least in part, to the fact that Democrats are too soft to mercilessly torture people.
3) Intentionally stirred dissent amongst common people over policies not particularly philosophically different from those their own president enacted while in power.
4) Tried to make states rights into a huge issue of sudden, convenient importance, and even talked about state secessions.
5) Now wants the Democrats to change their party name into one selected by Republican party members.

It's like they'll do anything to try to get people's support except create a reasonable ideological platform upon which to campaign.

I rather like the DNC's response to the RNC's 'request':

"I'm going to pass on marketing advice from folks who hadn't fully thought out the implications of using tea bags as a brand," said Democratic National Committee spokesman Hari Sevugan. "But what's clear is that when you're devoid of leadership, devoid of ideas and your only answer is to say 'no' to change, it's not surprising that angry, fringe elements take center stage at the Republican Party."

The last 6 months or so have been a comedy gold mine thanks to the GOP. It just goes to show, truth is stranger than fiction.

One day, you'll be able to present a proper argument, with associated evidence or reasoning to back your claims.

And when you do I will be so proud.

One day you'll find the proper forum for debate team nerds.
There your handbook on Critical Reasoning and your Bible, Logical Fallacies and the Art of Debate, will come in handy.

I read this again and again. There's definitely a hint of irony here, but no actual insult.

Don't feel so special. You're not the only guilty party.
But I suppose Dave's is pretty easy pickings for someone needing to feel intellectually and morally superior.

What you really should look into a little deeper is why you are so defensive.
Why do you feel anyone cares enough to try and insult you?

Americans have long demonstrated a desire for a mixed economy: some capitalism, some socialism. Many countries, perhaps most, do. What's your problem with that?

You're right, its not about me. The question is, what kind of person would try to insult me, and fail? Certainly not a happy, productive member of society. And you'd think a proper troll would be able to succeed, but this assumption is much too gracious.

I think they should rename both parties:

Incompetent, mostly rich, mostly white guy party A
and
Incompetent, mostly rich, mostly white guy party B

'Jack Johnson is facing off against his bitter opponent, John Jackson.'

but seriously, this smacks of a very miscalculated PR stunt. The more sh&t the far right flings against the wall the more splashback they get on their face.

I really wish they'd come up with a well-researched, legitimate alternative to nationalizing the banks and accumulating a non-existent cash number in deficits, it would be a welcome change from 'You're a socialist! boo! hiss!' Rolling Eyes
