Hi guys,
This is my first post. I was wondering if any of the teachers already in Korea have paid for travel insurance? Or do you feel that the cover offered in Korea is enough? Any thought would be great as im coming to Korea soon. |

Well, if you plan on getting a job FT in Korea with national health insurance (they're supposed to provide the opportunity) then you should be OK. Otherwise, if you're just backpacking or want some extra coverage, then obtain it at home before coming.
You can also purchase it from Gina at AIG in Yongsan, but as per her suggestion, you may as well get it at home before coming. She doesn't make much of anything in profit from selling it, but can sell it to you if you need it.

I looked into health insurance on my first contract in Korea, & the cost was prohibitive: $15,000 Au for a full year in 2006/2007. The Korean health insurance is more than adequate, (they deduct a small amount from your salary) & the health care system here is great (& cheap), once you receive your government health card. The standard of health care here is excellent.
Short Answer. No, don't bother with supplementary Western Insurance. |
