That ad is definitely pretty schweet. More Korean recruiters could learn a thing or three from that guy...instead of posting crap like:

"Come and work in the happy, funny English school in the lovely and handsome Pohang city. It is the most beautiful city in all of the Korea and the foreigner can enjoy the lovely sceneries and clean beaches. Come make contract with us and have funny time ^^ "

Rowan recommends KCTY (if you must work for a hagwon):

Salary
BA without any experience in Korea 2.2mil
BA with 1yr+ experience in Korea 2.3mil
BEd or MA without any experience in Korea 2.4mil
BEd or MA with 1yr+ experience in Korea 2.5mil

Start Date
May 30th, 2007

Work Schedule
1:00~3:00 Prep Time
3:00~5:55 Elementary Classes
5:55~6:10 Snack Time(Snack is provided by the school)
6:10~9:05 Elementary and Middle School Classes

Students Level
Elementary to Middle School
Return Airfare, Single Accommodation, and 50% Medical provided.
About 70 to 80% of the students are returnees from English speaking countries and the others are Korean students who have studied English since kindergarten. Therefore, teaching these students is much easier than teaching at normal English schools in Korea.
On the other hand, because of their standard of English, teachers need to provide high level of education to these students. Which means a lot of work is needed to be done by the teachers. Our teachers put in 110% of their effort and it means taking work home and grading papers and writing report cards every month.
We have TOEFL classes for 6th and 7th grade students. Normal Language Arts program for grades 1 to 5.
We would like someone who likes to take on a challenging role as a teacher and who looks towards moving up in Korea to achieve higher goals as an educator.

---
Hmmm. A 7 hour day (minimum) with EXTRA take home work on weekends for a max of 2.5 if you have the right degree.

Um, no thanks Rowan.

only a first year newbie would work 8 hours a day at a hagwon. And, those 1st timers are definately bachelor's holders, so the pay is standard or a little low.

There's not master's holder or a B.E.d out there who would even consider an 8 hour/day hagwon gig. retarded.

out of curiosity - how can EPIK offer Seoul positions (as the ad claims)?

SMOE is not a monolithic entity. The Gangnam Office of Education, for example, has long had its own native English teacher program independent of the SMOE program. Perhaps some of the other regional education offices in Seoul have decided to participate in EPIK rather than the SMOE ETIS program.

yeah, I was familiar with Gangnam being different/seperate but didn't know there were other regional offices not part of SMOE. What surpises me is that they'd choose to be part of EPIK, which based on "perception" is less prestigious than SMOE, and perhaps even GEPIK (since it includes all of Podunk, Korea, etc)
