Is there a website where you can find out if you have been blacklisted by the private school or public school?
If you left public school can you actually get another E2 with another school? I do know that you have to wait till your E2 does expire with them. But how about after?
Thank you in advance. |

Someone must have some kind of information.
Is there such website or do you have to apply for a new E2 to find out? |

Sorry but we can't let those of you who are on said list, and I am in no way admitting we are keeping such a list, see such a list, that is, if we had one, which we are not admitting to.
Sorry LOVYDOVY, I know that's lame but I couldn't help myself.
I seriously, seriously doubt employers would publish such a list, although they could certainly badmouth someone to each other in private. Immigration warned me that could happen when I was going to quit once. But believe me, unless you've done something terribly, terribly wrong, most times it won't affect you. In my case, I told a prospective employer what was happening and I could have started for them the next day. |

Most Korean employers won't even make phone calls to a potenial new hires' previous employer(s) to check him/her out. They certainly wouldn't subscribe to blacklists.
Even if a blacklist existed, who would post? Former bosses? Former colleagues? People with axes to hone? Maybe a potential teacher has been labeled as being too fat to work someplace. Does this teacher's name make it to the list? Does this person's name make it to the list while somebody who may have hit students not make it on the list? Even if you had a blacklist as a resource, how valuable would it be? A blacklist of teachers would make me wonder more about who ISN'T on it but should be and doubt its value as a usable resource. |

here's the site you are looking for but they no longer put the FT's names in E, now they are in K so you'll need someone to translate your name and look it up for you.
http://www.kftra.co.kr/
as for whether or not you can get another E2 after leaving, don't know, depends on a lot of things, how long has it been? good terms or what? can you give some more info? |

Wow. I learn something new every day. I asked my Korean friend to translate it and she says it appears to be like a hagwon association website and yes, they are proposing posting names and pictures of bad western teachers. At this point she didn't see any posted though.
Yes, bad references could stop some prospective employers from hiring you, just like back home. But Immigration told me unless you've violated some immi law it won't prevent you "legally" from getting another job. Again, in my situation I leveled with an employer about what was happening and they were ready to start me right away. Another wanted me the next week. |

"Ready to start me right away" and "wanted me next week" are euphemisms for 'the school was desperate to replace somebody'. Sad, but true. The question is was the particular somebody a person who had finished up a contract and was moving on, somebody who was quitting for a good reason and leaving on good terms, or somebody who was running from a bad employer? My money is on the latter. |

You better hope to find your name and picture on it, then you can sue them for libel! |

that's 100% correct - which is why now the names are in K no longer in E. |

Good point Tobias. I agree that is the case with those euphemisms more often than not. Thanks to Dave's I found that out before I ever came over on my first contract. Caveat Emptor - let the teacher seeking such jobs beware.
But I was not really addressing that point, only the fact that bad references alone won't keep you from getting a job here.
And my case, the "Ready to start me right away" position was a brand new university program that a friend ended up taking(they wanted both of us) and it's working out fine for him. The "wanted me next week" position was a public after school program that very well could have been bad-I don't know as I never got far enough in the process to check it out. |

I did a runner from SMOE. My visa will expire Aug. 24th of this year. I got very ill and I couldn't deal with the school in my sick condition. Too many problems.
That is why I am asking. |

a PS isn't going to blacklist you - not very likely anyway - just the shady hakwons - but a ps will probably put you on their own kind of "do not rehire" list for whatever reason - but you can go to epik or gepik or smoe - whichever one you weren't with before - don't think they talk to each other |
