Seriously, ive been trying to get a job since february. Had my documents together since March. Still havnt got a job. I thought it was meant to be easy once you have all your documents. Ive heard of people getting a job 2 weeks after they had their documents together...
Am I taking extremely long to find a job?
Maybe its because I have a Middle Eastern ethnicity? |

Unfortunately, you may have hit the nail on the head here, especially if you have an ethnic-sounding name.
Keep it up, though. As long as you're qualified, have your docs in order, and can do a solid phone interview you will find a place to work eventually. After the first year, recommendations and referrals will help break down that wall for you. |

Did you take the towel off your head for the interview at the consulate?
Actually if you DO look like a terrorist it can't help. |

I havnt got to the consulate yet...
I've had a contract signed and sent to korea... then it turns out the hagwon doesnt need me anymore. Also got a job with a public school in Cheonan...but then it turns out that they dont need me to start till June or later...
Now with a new recruiter trying to set me up with a public school. Lets see how things go. |

With documents in hand, you should be able to find a job within the month.
Judging from what you've said, you would have found a job (or two) but they've fallen through. It happens, but don't worry, you'll be here soon enough. |

if fromthewaziristan got hired, so can you.
I don't think he can beat in the "militant Muslim" look dept. (from what he says, anyways) |

Geez, I hope I dont receive more discrimination from the American teachers than the Koreans. |

actually, if I had to make a bet, I'd bet Koreans will treat you better.... that is until some "Muslim brothers" start blowing things up here or flying a plane into Seoul Tower.
then you'd find most Americans remarkably restrained in comparison. |

You do realise not all Muslims are terrorists, don't you? And you do realise not all people from the Middle East are Muslims yes? |

claro que si.
I'm a big fan of the Middle East. Love the music, many of the women (very very exotic).... food.... the rich culture and history (of which Islam is a critical part of)
BUT..
not a fan of the religion - but to be fair I'm not a fan of ANY religion, but what I really hate most are religious zealots.
That particular religion seems to house a significant amount of zealots.
or let's be blunt - lunatics.
what is MOST troubling, is that they're often allowed to run the asylum, or at the very least, aren't really challenged much - whereas in other religions, they'd get "thrown out" or "excommunicated".
I'll feel better when they start denouncing the lunatics within their midst, instead of harboring their "Muslim brothers". As that firebreathing rightist Bill Maher says - denounce your radicals...
you also need to start doing a little homework about the "religious cleansing" that the Middle East has undergone. Life had become so dangerous and hostile for Jews and Christians left that many have left (Iraq is a good example... it used to have decent minorities of both, certainly Christians).
I don't mean to hijack the thread, but felt your insinuations demanded an answer.
my original answer to the OP didn't dwelve into these topics.
Waziristan is an admitted Muslim "fundamentalist" who believes that everyone should ultimately be ruled under Sharia law. He also looks and dressed the part (based on what he has written). Strangely though, he also seems like a somewhat nice and nonviolent fellow.
I merely said if he could get employed here, then so can the OP, because I don't think he can "outwaziristan" the origianal 'waziristan'. |

I'm having similar trouble finding a job.
I've had my documents together for 1 month now and have had 2 interviews that went no where. It might be because I am 38, male and single with no experience. Yet, I am US born, white, BBA, TESOL cert (120 hours) from TEFL International @ Chiang Mai University, Thailand. I thought it would be easier and quicker than this. Has the demand decreased and supply increased due to the recession?
Would it help to mention that I have a fiancee that I've been with for 4 years? It seems that Koreans are racist, so does it matter if my fiancee is Thai? Not sure what I should bring up in an interview. Any suggestions? |

I was older than you last year and single when I did this, and from the time I decided to contact the recruiter, I had an e-mail exchange and phone interview within 2 weeks with several people with job offers that followed (though strangely my PS where I am now never formally offered me the job. I merely had the interview with the coordinator and no one told me anything. I had to contact her and ask if the school wanted me. |

I am sorry, but the post above looks like a flagrant violation of the Terms of Service. I received a report about this. Can't you deal with this issue without calling people towel heads and what not?
Thanks...

it might have to do w/where you were educated as well - as in what univ and then of course your major
i.e., an E major at any uni would be stronger than, say, a biology major from a little known uni in Egypt?
are you looking for teaching w/children or a univ gig?
did you try Gepik? I hear they'll hire just about anyone
whatever intl experience you have, it would be good to highlight it on your resume.
also any publications, or similar experience
if you even have a professional cv, put one together - I have one that's 22 pages long but I rarely use it anymore; but I did a few years ago when I was making a switch to PS - I was already 50 then, female and a science major, I felt like I needed a bit of an edge; put a cover sheet on it, make it nice and fancy as possible.
even prepare a video clip and upload it to youtube if you can, it wouldn't hurt.
just try thinking outside the box, ya know?
if all else fails, do try Vietnam or Taiwan, tho. |
