Of course no one needs the amount of money some people have, but hey, anyone would take it. Not exactly a fair world is it? I dislike celebrity obsession, people fawning over musicians or athletes and other celebrities. Damn, they're just human. Getting millions to make a movie or music or play a sport is insane, but then the world is a crazy place. And you kind of got to admire the people who become rich through their own talent, hard work and good fortune.
Another angle is if you got something millions want, I guess you deserve millions in return. |

Yes, I think they're overpaid.
You're either way over paid or grossly under paid. That's just how it works. It's always been that way. That's the way of the world. I just want enough to have a modest savings, middle class living, health care, housing, a few toys like electronic, vacations, and a nice car, along with an adequate retirement; not trillionaire. Having more in the bank is better, but it can go to your head and actually destroy you if you're super rich losing sight of living a healthy balanced life with keeping mind that money is only an instrument you use in achieving your living such as for buying food, flights, rooms, and essentials; not give you the freedom to act irresponsibly and put yourself and your ego on a pedestal thinking your above everything as master of the universe. People of average means like most of us think they'd be happier if rich, but the fact is, spoiled rich are often whiny, spoiled, complaining, negative, irresponsible, and frivolous while they live materialistic meaningless lives putting on this phoney image.
The only happy rich people I know of started out poor, work hard, have good work ethic, self discipline, often have faith in a religion, and have a sense of direction and purpose in life with balance. Money is only an instrument for security and essentials; not a god like idol that places you above everyone and everything. Too many rich feel entitled to high materialism to fill in the emotional gaps and then unreasonably moan about any little thing to those grossly underpaid servants, service workers, and retail sales people. I don't like their attitude as I've met so many ultra rich people in my work in serving them such as in hotel resorts, valet parking $500,000 cars at a Larry Forgioni restaurant, doing accounts receivable in a cubicle for Mercedes Benz financial, waiting tables in an expensive restaurant, delivering pizza, and selling suits and Polo for an upscale retail store at a mall. It was tough having the good life stare me in the face as I struggled paycheck to paycheck, even after serving my country and earning 2 degrees, so I came to Korea since I want to see the world and learn more to get more meaning in living my life. Yes, I want and need more money and hope to strike out on my own someday. Because I grew up poor, paid my dues, and have values from the many challenges the rich never experience, I'll be able to get a lot out of being over paid in the event that's my destiny in later in life. I will have earned it if I ever get $1,000,000 or more in the bank going or even achieve superstar celebrity status. I already know I don't want to be high profile after having gone to Korea as drawing a lot of attention, everyone speculating on your lifestyle, and too many hellos just drives me nutz, but it's cool.

When you get the same tired re-run type garbage TV/movies there is no reason why people are paid soooo much to do that.
Sure, A good movie, an interesting actor, 'Here's a million (or two.)'
But this nonsesnse with Cruise, Smith, Pitt et al that's just ridiculous.
They are tired and should be on sabbatical (or gone bush) like others do when they are burned out.
As for catching a ball for millions. Sheesh. What kind of World have we made?
Disclaimer: I didn't make it. |

Dave, could you please make another double Big Mac with that please? Gawd, I'm getting fat. Please fix the site, it likes to double up on us. How many times do you see doubles in threads as well as newly posted double, triple, and quadruple cloned threads? Too many to count.

Exactly, quality has gone way down despite technology vastly increasing. They could do much much better with movies (and music) in all genres, but mostly produce sh*t to be cheap and try to make a buck. It's the producers fault more so than the actors. The actors will do any story or movie producers direct them to do.
Science fiction is severely lacking as it's so expensive due to being highly technical. In the old days, they earned their money producing well thought well worked out movies. Now they just go through the motions of what it is to be movie stars. I'm not too impressed by most of the movies I'm seeing to the point many just get shelved partway through.
Agreed, sports should be about the game, camaraderie, and sense of community it can instill; not about multimillion dollar contracts and high materialism based social status. I think a top football player is worth $150,000 a year with $50,000 being average and if profit is left over, donate it to charity to benefit society who needs help. Sports like NFL football were originally intended to be a social system for the people; by the people since ancient times until the last couple decades came. Now it's just big over hyped up business screaming a way for you to show off or feel like you have high social status by being able to go to the games. |

In addition to that last sentence, if you don't like it, don't buy it.
You're free to choose to say 'no.'
Besides, they pay more in taxes anyway. |

Of course they're overpaid in the grand scheme of things. They're generally worthless human beings to boot.
But they work in multi-kajillion dollar industries, and of course they're entitled to some of that. So long as people continue to spend money on their movies and music, continue to watch E! and buy rags like People, and continue to give more a damn about Britney Spears than about what's really important, that won't change. |

I have thought before that a particular piece of music has been so beautiful that the artist deserves to be a millionaire if others feel as I have listening to it. That said, for most of human history musicians didn't make much money yet kept performing for the joy of it and at most to make a few coins, literally, or to be popular, so I don't feel bad for them in the age of copying and downloads; the last several decades of album sales have been the exception, not the rule.

It's called 'jealousy', a pretty basic emotion some indulge in, others don't. |

Yes because paying an extra 10% on an income of 30 million is the same as paying 18% on an income of 50,000 dollars. What a fantastic argument from the guy that lives in LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY. Hey, uh, so why are you even posting on the Korean Jobs Forum? Louisvillemojo kick you out? Coming back to Korea? No? Havnt been in Korea for years? Yeah. Strange and pretty sad.
Every celebrity is overpaid. Unless you are a celebrity ER doctor (as in an actual doctor that is saving peoples' lives and to my knowledge they dont exist anyway) you are grossly overpaid for what you do. Shooting a rubber ball through a metal hoop or crying on demand might be great skills but they do not justify a higher salary than doctors, soldiers, policemen, firefighters or any of the other professions that are either out there risking their lives or saving lives.
With that said, who's going to see the new Star Trek movie? |

I think they get paid exactly what they are worth. Do they deserve it? Who the *beep* cares? With people starving all over the world no one deserves to be living in excess, but generally those in the 1st world do live in excess. This isn't a perfect world. Celebs get paid what they are worth, if they weren't worth it they wouldn't be offered as much. I don't hate her or any other celeb for accepting the best deal they can get. We would all do the same. All of us would take a job that paid 7 million and involved 4 hours of teaching a day. Would we really deserve it? Would that bother you? Would you say, "hey, that's a lot of money for very little work, but I don't deserve it so instead I will take the one at the hagwon for 2.5, cause that's what I really deserve". Obviously those who pay Judge Judy the money think its a good deal for them to pay up. if they didn't think so, they wouldn't have offered her as much. Its pretty simple, really. |
