My boyfriend is planning on coming with me to Korea in August, but I've been told by 2 recruiters that he can only teach if he has a 4-year degree and that they have changed the rules. Is this true? He graduates in December and one of the recruiters said that they could go ahead and do his paperwork and everything, but yeah he can't start until he graduates with his B.A.

As far as I know, those rules have applied for quite some time. There was the TaLK (Teach and Learn Korea) Program, but I haven't heard anything about it in a while. They were accepting people with 2 year degrees and paying them far less. Their website doesn't appear to be working.

Your post is confusing. You ask about teaching with a 2 year degree (what is that)?

And then you say your BF will have a B.A when he graduates...isn't that a FOUR year degree?

Anyway to the best of my knowledge you can not teach here with a 2 year degree...unless you are in the TALK program which pays about 1.5 million a month and whose schools are in 'the boonies'.

3 year degrees are fine also....many UK universities are 3 year long courses as mine was.

.....but anyway he can't work legally without a degree so he will have to wait until December.

what is a two year degree? Are you talking about a trade certificate or an actual degree.

A two year degree in the states is an Associate's Degree. My interpretation of the OP is that her boyfriend has an A.A., but he will not have is B.A. until December.

From what I last heard from someone who talked to the Ministry of Education..

80 credits at an accredited university, no degree required.

Might not be a national thing but that's how it works in some areas.

This question has come up a couple of times in the last six months. If you have an Associates Degree (from the US), or two years of college, you can apply to the TALK program, which is basically an after school program. If you are a gyopo and have an F4 visa, I believe, you can get a job in a hogwon, a Korean English Institute. Outside of that, you're legally out of luck. I don't recommend the coming to Korea on a tourist visa route.
