I was wondering, I heard it is possible (with the right connections) that you could bypass the whole recruiting situation and get better pay by getting a teaching position by other means than through a recruiting company.

Is this possible?

I think recruiters get a "cut", but by bypassing the recruiters, you can get pretty much the majority of the pay, right?

I've never heard of anyone making more money by recruiting themselves. Recruiters typically get a recruitment fee per teacher recruited. The fee spread out over a year's worth of salary wouldn't amount to much.

You can get a job without going through recruiters. For my first position in Korea, I posted my resume online and was contacted directly by the school I ended up working at.

most of the chain hagwons accept applications through their web sites. you can also apply directly through the epik/gepik/smoe programs (i think) rather than through a recruiter.

You need a korean friend who "knows" somebody( I knew a professor who got me an offer for a private PS job back in the states)...the other option is to pay for a ticket and job hunt on the ground in korea....
