So, I'm sure you've heard about this Swine Flu situation that North America is in...wow. About 150 dead so far in Mexico, all schools closed. 30 or 40 cases in the States and a few in Canada but no one has died yet, as far as I know.

So, I'm looking at some prevention advice given by the W.H.O. and the C.D.C. and wondering what will happen if/when this hits S. Korea. Like cover your cough....jeez, trying to get students to do this is like pulling teeth, talking to a brick wall, etc. Clean your hands...huh? I'm like the only one who actually washes his hands after I go to the washroom. Clean your surroundings...dirty mops, no bleach, yeah that's gonna help disinfect the school. Stay home if you have flu symptoms and stay home for 2 days after you feel better...what?! I can't even get students outta my class to go to the nurses room to rest. Stay home, almost impossible.

So, suffice it to say, I'm a little nervous if this flu, which was just upgraded to 4 on a scale of 6 (now easily transmitted from human to human), comes to Seoul/Korea. Yeah they got masks here but it will take a lot of re-education to get teachers, students, parents and the government to comply with the necessary protocols to control this virus. Good luck.

Let's hope it doesn't get any worse. Take care.

yeah, what's the word from South Korea? My flight leaves May 8th into Seoul. Does anyone think South Korea will prohibit Americans from entering the country in two weeks? Because if so, that would be a huge buzkill!

So let me know if the South Korean media is going bonkers like Glenn Beck on Fox News. BTW i hate that guy.

No. Some of us newbs would like to know about it. I did a school project on SARS in the 11th grade.

So, what was it like?

Much ado about nothing. In both cases. No epidemic. Millions did not die.

As silly as this might sound considering the "newness" of the flu strain, does anyone believe immigration, etc. will make a fuss out of this?

All the craziness at immigration may be the reasons there hasn't been a great flu epidemic since the Spainish Influenza.

In any case it's 99% media hype, 1% genuine concern.

Nice if that were true. What were the beef protests about?

Damn, SARS, Bird Flu, Mad Cows, Swine Flu, oh my god, won't somebody please think of the children? Time to cancel all flights everywhere and shut down everything, there's a million to one chance you could die.

WHAAAAAAAAAAACK! Damn bus.

Near Seoul? In this crowded and dirty a place, that could be bad.

Don't become part of the fear chain. Media strikes fear with a cool sounding disease adds a bunch of numbers like h1 23f to make it sound official and then a bunch of idiots go around telling all of us about it.

Look here even Disney in 1943 made fun of how they spread fear.

According to Google Maps, there are no cases on mainland Asia, but NZ has 22 students showing flu symptoms after returning from a language trip to Mexico.
