I can't imagine anyone not being at least a little nervous right now, what with what we've all seen for what passes as very un-hygienic (sp?) behavior here -
will E teachers leave en masse? stay home and risk being fired? do you have a plan B? or even C?
I already have a tkt for this summer but hopefully won't be barred from traveling! |

I asked a University Advanced Conversation level class this the other day. Mostly they said "take vitamins" "wash my hands a lot" and "eat healthy food".
I think they read the Canadian's Who Teach In Korea Manual. A lot.
My funniest student said that'd he'd "Drink, smoke and play". I liked this answer. Kinda. He's the same student who told me the best job in the world is to be a Drug Lord though. (Oh, and he wants to be an English teacher when he grows up haha) |

I'm not worried AT ALL about this swine flu.
You've got about 200 confirmed cases World-Wide, and NO deaths outside Mexico.
Frankly, I think you've got more chance of dying in a plane crash than dying of swine flu...and unless you are in Mexico, dying of swine flu would be like dying in a plane crash while you are on the ground. |

I'm not going anywhere. Take the kid's advice to drink, smoke and be merry. |

Who knows what will happen. But the Spanish flu of 1918 started out as a whimper then came back to kill 50 million people.
Your choices are incomplete. How about:
**worry but have no other choice but to go to work and hope you don't get sick. |

What would I do?
I would bring the disease back to the work and spread it equally amongst my fellow co-workers and children, because it's the right thing to do in Korea. Ridiculous work ethics is may more important than spreading diseases. |

I'll join the protests against the americans...Then not eat at any Mexican resturant and do a news doc about it and brew up a storm in the Korean media about how even looking at a Mexican will get you the flu |

Unfortunately, although your chances of dying in a plane crash stay the same from day to day, your chance of contracting swine flu is growing geometrically.
This is a pretty good Google Map that gets updated frequently:

I'm guessing the reasons so many deaths happened in Mexico is that the swine flu hit there first, before anyone could figure out what it was or how dangerous it was. That and Mexico's kind of third worldish. |

My biggest worry is that we'll see a decrease in the recent popularity of Mexican food. I'm out in the boonies far enough to not have to worry too much about an outbreak. |
