For my ESL assessment class, our assignment is to ask an ESL professional 8 questions as an interview.

My professor told me that it can be any ESL professional, and since I do not know of any in my hometown, I was hoping that someone on this board who is a UNI professor or who has had at least 4 or 5 years experience teaching would be willing to answer these questions. Please PM me or post if you would be willing to do this short interview. I will either PM you the questions, or just post them in this thread.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Here are the questions: Anyone who wants to contribute to one or more questions please post your replies on this thread!
Interview:

1) What methods of assessment have you used to assess ESL students?

2) What issues do you feel are specific to assessment of the ESL population?

3) Which forms of alternative assessment in your classroom?

4) How do you feel about assessments that document individual student growth over time versus assessments that compare students with one another?

5) What are some methods of non-verbal and/or non-written assessment that you feel are useful for assessing ESL students?

6) What types of listening/speaking assessments do you feel are most useful for assessing ESL students?

7) What are your views on standardized testing of the ESL population in the U.S.?

Cool How does assessment where you teach compare/differ to ESL assessment in the U.S.?

We had a rule about responding to these on the USENET forum, and I'm following that rule right now by not responding. I will, however, bump your thread for those who are otherwise inclined.

So does that mean anyone who responds will now feel as if they are breaking a rule?

I really need help with this and do not know where to find another ESL professional!

Why would giving one's opinion about teaching ESL be against any "rule"?

Doing people's assignments for them (and "interviews" like you're asking for) was frowned upon as it brought people onto the board that normally wouldn't have come there, because college students learned that they could get their homework done for them by experienced teachers. That's why. Another bump for ya.
