(note for Abyinthe Rye bread brown & wild rice, cheap nokia cellphones sunflower seeds) - I updated on page 3/4

I went to Dongdaemun Stadium Station (lines 2, 4, 5) (exit 5) today - walked around the back of the Woori bank - and into the bakery run by the nice Uzbekhistan adjuma,

to collect my weekly purchase of freshly made cottage cheese, fresh yogurt, some beef and potato pastries and russian bread from the Uzbekhistan/russian bakery..

however - on the walk back to subway station (30 seconds) I decided to check out the other Russian/Uzbekhistan stores around exit 5 - and found a nice small store - run by a lady and her young daughter selling...

1 liter bottles of "Absolut Vodka" for 25,000won
1 liter bottles of other russian liquers and drinks all 20,000won
250 gram blocks cheese - at 4,000~5,000won each
packages of (500 gram RED Atlantic salmon steaks x 6 in each package) for 10,000won
heaps sausages, salami, other deli products at a very low price

what I purchased there today -
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3548/3483440528_f9ce5e0e16.jpg?v=0

(I have been paying 9,000won at Homeplus for one-450-gram-red-salmon steak) - now I got 6 X 500 gram steaks for 10,000won

also been paying 34,000won for 700ml bottles of "Absolut Vodka" now got the 1 liter for 25,000won..)

if you ever purchase this stuff regularly (like me - I always purchase red salmon, vodka, cheese etc) - but are sick of paying very expensive prices at the supermarket - I recommend going to Dongdaemun Stadium Station (lines 2, 4, 5) (exit 5) and checking out the small Russian/Uzbekhistan shops there..

(there is no long walking distances) - all the shops are within 1 minute walking of exit 5 (behind Woori bank) - just check out the alleys..

Did you mean to write "Absolut" Vodka, or are you talking about some knock-off brand or something.
I know that E-Mart carried a variety of the flavored Absoluts for more, but I think the regular 80 proof goes for 25,000 or so for the 700 ml bottle.

"Aboslut Vodka" - (product of Sweden)- 40% ALC. VOL (80 PROOF) 1 LITER IMPORTED PRODUCED AND BOTTLED IN AHUS, SWEDEN V&S VIN&SPRIT AB (PUBL) sorry for my mistake in typing...

no knock-offs - these bottles, are all the original genuine thing...

plus - the store had heaps of bottles, deli products, meats, fish, etc - all at "very low prices"

and this afternoon - I just checked out the price of a regular 80 proof 700 ml bottle at Emart - it was 34,500won

The salmon is frozen (Homeplus salmon is smoked AND FROZEN) - I have an oven so always add some herbs (thyme, dill, garlic, rosemary) to bake it

I realise some people don't believe anything without evidence - so here is a photo of todays purchases...

(Next time I am taking a BIGGER bag so I can fill up on deli products and bottles) Razz

I am no good at maps - but if you look at this map http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v29/dogbert/Dongdaemun-map.gif

(the WOORI bank is next to the KYRGYZ bakery - where I get the cottage cheese, and yoghurt, and exit 5 is next to the Woori bank)

the small alley running away from the the KYRGYZ bakery (towards Uljiro) has the small deli/bottle shop just 20 seconds walking into the alley

the map shows exit 12 but do NOT take that exit - its too much walking - take exit 5 and you are basically standing in front of the Woori bank and KYRGYZ bakery

p.s. 200 grams cottage cheese (in my photo) = 3,000 won
250 grams yoghurt (natural/low fat) = 2,300 won per tub

**freshly made each morning - with one week before it expires**

the bakery sells freshly made 300gram tubs of sour cream also... (2,500won)

Excellent post Socks. Thanks.

This is what Dave's is so good for.

I have a question....are these shops open at the weekend? (Both days)

I have also heard good things about the Russian restaurants around there, but not sure if they are open weekend lunchtimes.

Cheers again.

I think I have been there on a Weekend before - and they are always open..

many Russian/Uzbekhistan people there - so its great to see "different foreigners" all chatting away in a different language other than Korean - and they all seem very friendly...

I usually go Tuesday mornings (each week) to get my yogurt/cottage cheese/bread - but was just the first time I found this deli/bottle shop (which made me hApPy)

cant go next Tuesday (because of public holiday) so I will have to make these goodies last 9 days - before I can go there Thursday morning next week...

but I know what I will be drinking over the long-weekend..

This^^. Have you eaten at any of the restaurants? I've never had that kind of food before. If so, what would you recommend? Now I have something new to do this weekend.

wow! I didn't know all the lines at transfer stations had their own exits??

Its the same station Dongdaemun Stadium Station (lines 2, 4, 5) (exit 5) all the exits are the same doesn't matter which line you take to get there.

just exit 5 (I use line 5 - and the exits are the same for line 2, 4 & 5)
