|
|
| I was about to respond to the post about not buying anything from mrnice (don't remember his real name, Bart something), and it got deleted. Why delete that post? I was going to suggest blacklisting him until he at least attempts to make amends with the guy who he sold the bike to. I'm sure there's his side to the story, but at least make an attempt to make amends. |

A moderator sent me an e-mail about it. Apparently it is a violation of the rules to post the real name of a Dave's poster. But leaving someone with faulty equipment apparently is not.
I'll repost my story, and hopefully they won't delete it if I don't use any names.
A person under the user name "MRNICE" sold me a motorcycle on Friday. We went back and forth a bit, and he seemed like a decent guy. He showed up with the bike and let me ride it around a bit to see that it worked okay. It seemed to. I paid him, thanked him, and drove home. Not a mile away the bike craps out. I can't get it started again. I take it to a nearby mechanic and he says it needs a new carborator... which is 85,000W. Of course the seller did not mention this when he sold the bike to me.
Eventually it started and I got it home. Now it won't start again. I have called and texted and e-mailed this seller repeatedly, and he ignores all these attempts to get in touch with him. Either he knowingly sold me a faulty bike, or he didn't know it was faulty but does not stand by his sale and is making no attempt to make amends.
I think he's leaving in a few days, but in case MRNICE shows up on here trying to buy anything, DO NOT BUY IT.
Or maybe that's what I get for blindly trusting white people. |

"aparently selling someone faulty ....... is not"
The onus is on the BUYER to inspect the merchandise, it ALWAYS hs been. If you buy a vehicle used, you take it to the garage and get it checked out. Then if you get a clean bill of helath you an buy the item, or you can use the repairs bill to lower the cost.
you menion that you "blindly trusted a white guy"
yeah that pretty much sums it up.
Now it sucks that this happened to you, but you were the one comepletely in the wrong here. You came, you looked, you Test drove, you failed to inspect, you bought.
The guy didnt mislead you?
Did you ask if there was anything wrong with it? Did he say "no not a thing?" THEN he MAY have lied, but he could have been unaware of the issue.
When i last sold my used car, I never took it to a garage either. I let the BUYER do that. I am sure there MAY have been a thing or two wrong with it, but I sold it for a fair price, and i had no knowledge of any specific problems. Hell the guy that bought it even asked me when was the last time it was at a garage. I told him the truth and that it had been a while. He asked if id drop the price a couple hundred in light of that, I said sure, he took the car and all was good.
Hey man, Im sorry this happenned to you, I really am, but the seller ws not in the wrong, and does not have to take your calls
although he could be a nice guy by doing so, but there s nothing he has to do to satisfy you or make ammends for your purchase. |

I agree with Hamlet...it sucks to buy a used vehicle that craps out on you, but it seems unlikely that he was trying to pull the wool over your eyes since he did let you have a test drive. You could have easily taken the bike to a shop to have it looked at.
Don't get me wrong...I never take used cars to the shop either....but last year we bought our car from a foreigner for 700,000 and 1 week later it needed the head gasket replaced for 350,000....it never even crossed my mind to email or call the woman who sold us the car. I bought a used car....it's right there in the title "used." What can you do? That's life...save up and buy a new one if you want a guarantee. |

Well, maybe he will reply if he is white and nerdy. Otherwise, he's busy "rollin wit the gangstas!!!"

| The onus is on the buyer and the seller. That's why these forums exist to spread the onus around. Sellers are not automatons, they should more of a vested interest in a smooth transaction, especially given the way the expat community works online. |

Muffy,
It sucks that the seller may or may not of been up front with you about the carb. But maybe the guy has no knowledge about motorcycles or scooters, like 90% of the foreigners here. They just get on the cycle and go. I am not defending him it's just a shame, it happens sometimes.

Maybe this is why your post was deleted, I am white and I have bought and sold many things on here to and from other foreigners and didn't have a problem with the items.
The race of a person doesn't matter there are cons of every color.
And 85,000 for carb work is cheap consiering to rebuild a carb in the states will cost you about 150 - 200 dollars.
And if you want try and push start it.
my two cents
Jake

Well, if you have to blindly trust someone, those are the people to do it to! |

Am I being stupid or what, because this statement does not seem even remotely racist to me.
The way I read it, the guy felt that one WESTERNER wouldn't deliberately rip off another, so he blindly trusted him.
He is berating himself for being naive - I don't read his statement and think that all white people are con men or all black people or all Asians or whatever. |

Yeah, I got ripped off by a guy on here a while back to the tune of about 80,000 won for goods paid for but not received--he told me he would make things right and had the posts about him removed, but two months later he's left the country and not responding to my messages.
As a forum for transactions, Dave's is failing miserably, unfortunately. |

Yes you are. That is the definition of racism. He is making a judgment about human traits, whether to trust an individual or not to trust them, based only on their race i.e. white. |

Jesus. It'd be nice if I could make a single post without getting attacked by the moral police on here.
The crack about blindly trusting a white person was just a jab at my own stupidity. It was a joke. Relax, people. My experience is I have never (to my knowledge) been ripped off by another white person here, and have been ripped off by Koreans several times. If that makes me racist, so be it.
Yeah, I obviously should have gotten it checked out further. And yes, the guy reassured me that the bike was perfectly fine and didn't need any new parts.
I was mainly coming on here to warn others not to buy from MRNICE, not for sympathy. But I'm starting to realize that posting on Dave's and NOT being made to feel worse after doing so is pretty much impossible. I didn't mean to start a huge debate on who was wrong on this one. It seems obvious that I was naive and too trusting, and he was dishonest.
Anyway, I'm not getting my bike back, so let's just end the debate and pay attention to the title of my post. |
