There will be a new firmware with a month or so which will enable ripping of original disks without a Kreon. That's what i'm waiting for, then I'll lug the box to YS.

Is it possible to ftp games/files to the hard drive yet? That's such a beautiful thang.

Windows 7 has a media streamer/server built in right? There might be something in that.

you wont be banned from xbox live unless you are playing a game that hasnt been released yet. only games that are coded region free will be region free. that isnt determined by the drive, but by the game backup. whatever region you bought your xbox in, that is the region you will need to play those games.

That's not necessarily true. I have bought 4 NTSC-J games from Yongsan that play fine on my North American 360.

As I mentioned in another thread, I think that depends on what version of the games you bought. With PGR4, did you buy the Japanese-locked version or the region-free Japanese version? The region-free Japanese version would play on your US box as it uses ntsc as well and, more importantly, the game is region-free. Likely, the guys at Yongsan weren't aware of how many versions of the game there are.

Looking at that link again, it looks like that game is actually region-free anyway(except for the Platinum Collection version). What are the other three games? I have a new US 360 coming in a week and I'll test my ntsc-j NHL 07 on it to see if it can be played, but I don't think that'll be possible.

EDIT:

Well, the NTSC-J version of NHL '07 DEFINITELY does not work on my new US box, just to let anyone who's curious know. Also, my brand-spanking new NTSC-US NHL '09 is DEFINITELY not working on my Korean box.

Also, I thought one of the benefits of modding was to enable you to play all regions?

No. Modding your 360 fools it into believing that you're playing a legit disk. The disk still has to either match your region or be region-free. These days, it seems like more games are becoming "NTSC Region-free", meaning they can be played in 360s bought in Asia(excluding China), Japan, US, and Canada. However, they still can't be played in Europe/Australia unless they are region-free.

I've heard of many people being banned from Live while playing already-released burned games.

Definite possibility if things aren't patched properly. Look into abgx and mulleter to help you with these issues. As MattAwesome said, it would be better to not play the game until after the official release. Some people say that you can never know when the hammer will fall, but many others have never had any problems(probably because they insure that their copy is properly patched before going online).

Sorry guys, I am not able to flash any xbox's at this time. If you go to the electronics market in yongsan, you might be able ot ask one of the guys there to do it. or have your korean friends ask. sorry guys.
I can however assist anyone with technical questions about xbox modding.

from what I heard, even the newest firmware will still get your console banned if playing a wave 4, like MW2

if you don't use Live, then you can patch wave 4 (and 5) to wave 3. But it's asking for a ban. So is using any Iextreme FW right now, even the latest.
